The sad thing about the Chase is that it makes it almost impossible to compare the drivers of yesteryear with the current group of drivers that we have today.
NASCAR has become such a greedy money monster.
Everyone keeps talking about whether or not Gordon can tie 7 Championships.
Surely NASCAR has screwed Gordon out of at least 2 more.
In another thread people talk of how steady Clint Bowyer has been. Are you kidding me? The only reason Bowyer even has a shot at the Cup trophy is because of this mickey mouse Chase.
Under the old format, Bowyer would be over 700 points out of first. Beloved Jimmie would be almost 500 points out of first. Clearly, neither would be worthy, this year, of being called "The Best."
In the old days, half of these guys would have trouble getting a job as a grille brusher.
The main problem with the Chase is that it takes away from the people that really deserve to be called Champion and gives a shot to those that never could.
What NASCAR should do is take the first part of the year off and then toward the end of the year host 10 races and call the most consistent driver the almighty Champion. After all, isn't that what they're doing?
I know, all things evolve and change is certain, but NASCAR is sacrificing the sport for another extra dollar.
Sorry, just had to vent. Still beats the hell out of stick and ball.
