Quote from the above article:
"Today's 500-ish events might not be quite that brutal, but their lengthiness all but ensures that the middle 300 miles or laps are all but meaningless. Even the most die-hard of NASCAR fans has to admit that the middle stanza is reserved for mowing the grass, checking projects off the honey-do list or taking a nap."

Good read, and accurate in many (not all) cases...pretty accurate when talking about Pocono, though ;)

You're right about Pocono, my absolute least favorite track. I'm actually looking for something to do or somwhere to go this Sunday.

I thought the Pocono race in Spring was better than usual. Then again, TNT (unlike FOX and ESPN) showed us more than 3 cars. :idunno:

Boring? Yeah, I made it through last week's god-awful race.

Pocono will seem exciting after the 10-lap sprints at Indy last week. :D

I'd much rather see Pocono cut to 300 miles. It would still seem as long.
Pocono has a lot of good side-by-side racing, as we saw on the TNT Summer Series earlier this year. Only problem is FOX and ESPN only show us a few select drivers in each race.

Personally, I think they should go back to 90s style TV scheduling, with certain tracks being on certain networks. That way, we could get TNT to cover Pocono and Loudon exclusively.

I would also like to see Dover extended to 500 miles and cut to one date (since that's probable).

Every track certainly has it's snoozers. But most have had several really good races as well, with the exceptions being Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Auto Club Speedway, Chicagoland Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.

I'm sure there was some exciting side-by-side racing during those 10 lap sprints, but ESPN didn't show anything other than the 48 car so I didn't see 'em.

I remember those races. The last 500-miler seemed to take forever to get finished. I think the run time was well over 5 hours.

I looked it up and it was actually the next to last 500-mile race there in 1996. Race time was 4 hours and 43 minutes, which translated into TV time of over 5 hours. The race came on the air at noon and didn't sign off until 5:30.

All I remember is how happy everyone was when the race was cut to 400
Thing is, we need a 500 mile race on the Mid-Atlantic. NASCAR's been taking races from this area and shipping them off, and I think we all know Dover ends up losing a date if Bruton seriously pursues buying Dover Motorsports Inc to get a race at KMS or LVMS.

That said, Dover is one of the biggest tracks in the NASCAR schedule - I wonder if NASCAR's willing to take a date from a track seating 140,000 for a track seating 65,000 or a track seating 130,000.

Either way, most of us feel it's going to happen. Bruton Smith wants Dover, and Bruton Smith wants Memphis and Gateway even more. Memphis is the deal breaker here, Bruton wants that track bad.

Right now, with Bruton, it's not about NASCAR, it's about Drag Racing.

Either way, I fully expect Dover to lose a date.

I would like to see some races migrate to some of our other tracks though.

If NASCAR's smart, they migrate Texas or Fontana's second dates to New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Eddie sued for TMS's fall date. NASCAR will have to counter sue to get it back anytime in the next 100 years.

And him taking that fall date has made racing so much better :sarcasm:

Texas is one of those tracks on the circuit I truly detest (sorry TRL, magestyx, magnethead, etc). One of the worst races on the schedule. Right up there with Fontana and Indianapolis.

I have one we can all agree on.

I think Bruton Smith should buy Indianapolis Motor Speedway. :D

i agree pocono needs to shorten its races. i wouldnt mind if they only had one race at pocono a year.
I would. Because that'd be another date that gets shipped off to the Midwest and the left coast. :bazooka:

Great idea thinking of taking the nation's largest market's race away. :sarcasm:

Pocono's keeping what it has. That's the NYC market's key race.

Staten Island? The locals whined and complained about noise, pollution and traffic so the ISC sold the land. Big truck company bought it in an auction so the whiny little pussies ended up getting raceday traffic 24/7/365 along with the loud noise of those trucks 24/7/365 and even more pollution. :growl:

They did build an F1 style road course, sports car club in Millville - New Jersey Motorsports Park. They're planning on building a .75 mile oval and an ATV course.
