Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SPEED goes High-Def in 2008: SPEED will make its move to High Definition in 2008, beginning Feb. 7 with 100 hours of NASCAR on SPEED HD from Daytona Speedweeks. Topping the 70-million U.S. household mark and coming off four consecutive years of ratings growth in 2007, the move to High Definition is the next step in the evolution of a network that has added more than 30 million homes since being fully acquired by Fox Cable Networks in 2001. In addition to its season-long, at-track coverage of NASCAR, with programs including NASCAR RaceDay, Trackside, NASCAR Victory Lane, Tradin' Paint, NASCAR Live!, NASCAR Performance and Go or Go Home, SPEED also will explore opportunities to bring other racing series and special events to viewers in HD in 2008. In a move that began earlier this summer, SPEED programming is now commissioned in true 16:9 HD. In addition to the bold moves on the television side, SPEED's interactive division will raise the bar as well, with a re-launch of a completely re-tooled SPEEDtv.com slated for early February. The new site will feature dramatic across the board improvements in depth and timeliness of motor sports news and information, delivered through a new wide-screen format that is optimized for easy navigation, interactivity with mobile and other applications, social networking and customization. Registered SPEED Insiders (www.insider.speedtv.com) will get a sneak peek at the new SPEEDtv.com in early in January.(SPEED PR)(10-6-2007)

Speed might be in high def....but will my cable cable provider carry it????? probably not for 1 - 2 years

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought all channels were going HD come 2008?

You are correct. Going HD is only the first step. The second step is to get the cable, satellite, etc providers to carry it in HD. TBS recently went HD and my cable provider also carries it in HD and it is nice to watch the MLB playoff in HDTV.

CNN IS in HD and Comcast doesn't carry it.

SPEED's been broadcasting in HD for a while, but only in NY.

My cable provider is TWC and they will start carrying CNN in HD on Oct. 15. On Oct 15 TWC will add 9 additional channels of HD to their lineup. It upsets me a little though that the HD sport package carried by TWC is an additional $6.99 a mo.

With the pressure DirecTV is putting on cable companies with their expansion of HD I'm thinking the cable companies may be more willing to convert, if they have the bandwidth. In areas where bandwidth is a problem they'll have to pick and choose between the offerings. This could also put a damper on adding new channels.

What to do..oh what to do..

The dilemma the cable companies have is how FEW of their customers actually have HD units. I look for analog TV to be here for much longer than the law called for.
Law makers will point out the income of their constituents..

Betsy, Do you have any Idea how many HDTV are sold now!!! The HD generation hit big last christmas and is still going strong as hell.

I just counted

I have seven sets. Of course I can't watch all of them at the same time.. But I cannot see myself purchasing another TV until a few of these go away.
Trust me, these sets will work fine for many years to come..
Cable operators KNOW their subscribers. When a preponderance of subscribers are ready is when it will happen...not before.

I wonder if WalMart will run the RCA HD on Black Friday for half price again?
Oh, and 1 shopping strategy says to go on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and purchase from a store that has the 30 day price guarantee and then have them refund the difference when the set goes on sale. You know BestBuy and Circuit City will be fully stocked on that Wednesday and there won't be much of a crowd as everyone will be waiting on Friday. So waltz in pick out a good set and just wait for them to run them on sale within the 30 days.

I think they have that covered in small print in the advertisements that come out on thursday. Probably states limited quanities and must be purchased on friday....

Also the best time to by a HDTV is the weekend after the superbowl.

When i can get a HD 42inch LCD TV for the price of what i paid for my 27 inch with PIP then i'll think about buying a new TV. No sense buying one when my 5 year old one works just fine.

For what it is worth, I have a Panasonic 50 in. Widescreen Plasma TV and enjoy the HDTV aspect very much. Nothing like watching a Cup race or other sporting event in HDTV. Just my preference. :)
