Office Depot to Stewart: been told that Office Depot will be the sponsor for Tony Stewart in 2009 when he drives for Haas CNC Racing which is will buy in to. Hearing the announcement of the buy and deal will be made in Indianapolis the week NASCAR is in Indy for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, July 27th. See past news nad rumors on this on my #70 Team News and #20 Team News pages.(7-3-2008)

So, who's sponsoring Carl? Is Home Depot staying with Gibbs? Who takes over the #20?

Silly Season just got a little bit sillier. :D

Who's gonna sponsor Rocketman? You know Brian ain't gonna allow Verizon to move with Newman... Unless they go with him as Verizon FIOS or Verizon DSL:D

I do not understand why he is going to Haas, Does he not want to win again?

He has a better chance at Gibbs then at haas!

While I agree with you it will be interesting that if Tony goes to Haas if he can raise their performance or if the whole experiment is a bust.
Afterall if it is a bust all he stands to lose is some money and he can afford that. And he won't have any problems of some top team picking him up if he goes on the market later.

Aflac is sponsoring Edwards and rumor is Burger King and maybe one other company will sponsor Newman.

Home Depot will stay with the 20 car and Joey Logano will be the new driver. It will be hard for me not to cheer for that orange car.

Stewart is taking a big chance by leaving one of the top teams. But he's obviously having some nice change thrown his way by Chevy to leave. My guess is he'll win some races, but won't win another championship. He'll build the team up into a competitive team and retire or race part time in Cup in 5-6 years.

Agree to a point.

But, HAAS doesn't have drivers that have ever done anything. Johnny Sauter wasa 30th place runner every week when he was with RCR, same with Riggs at Evernham. Jeff Green never did much of anything either.

You do have a point their (Quick somebody makea note, I agreed with Andy!)

Maybe he sees something at Haas that he can build on. But im not convinced he is leaving. It would be cool to see himgo to RCR or (shudder) Hendrick tho.

Here ya go. :D

Haas is basically a satelite hendrick team right now. I'm wondering if, when tony and newman go over there, if Rick will start cutting larger checks to haas, a la rousch > yates? So Rick will basically have a 6 car team?

that's what I've been saying from the get go, tony will get hendrick racecars and it's up to his crewchief to get the car to perform.

Now, the next question .......will Zippy go if Tony goes?

I can't see Tony going anywhere w/o Zippy. I did hear they weren't going to let Zippy out of his contract with Gibbs, but I'm betting if all of this goes through, I'm sure Tony made arrangements to buy out Zippy's contract. Now... for all those orange and black rooms loaded with 20 keepsakes... yikes. I know people with those rooms and someone with the Tony Stewart Monte Carlo. Now they don't have to worry about taking the Stewart stuff off and buying a Toyota. LOL

Most of all that's been written up there is everything that's been said for weeks and weeks. Big surprise.

Still would have been some POWER team having him at Hendrick, even if he's basically going to be working for them anyway.

I just knew he wouldn't stay in a Toyota long.

I wonder if ownership cycle is coming around again to the owner/driver. Last time it happened, it didn't work out very well for the boys. Yeah, I know that Michael began this last year, but he was really never a facter in any race with the exception of the plate races. Earnhardt the senior must have taught him well. But the number of top dog drivers driving for themselves and not doing well is long. I have always thought that DE knew this and that is why he continued to driver for RCR. Whatever happens will be interesting.

If anyone can pull it off, it's Smoke. He's got the money.

Comparatively, Robby and Mikey aint doing bad as owner/drivers. I agree, it may be coming back around.

I wouldn't exactly put Robby and especially Mikey, in the same league as Tony as far as drivers. Don't get me wrong, I love Robby as a racer because he drives so many different things. He just doesn't have the results of Tony in cup, owner or not. Although, I don't think Robby could be hurting all that much for $$$ with all he spends going to the races across the oceans.

Tony already has some experience as an owner, so he probably has a heads-up on knowing how to hire people to do the work in other areas of the business so he can focus more on racing. At least I hope so anyway. :D

Well as to your point WNY, and also to Andy's, with Robby, Sauter, Green, and others, is it the team doesn't have the money to put the product on the track? Or is it the driver doesn't have the skills or temperment to compete at the Cup level? IMO you have to look at each individual driver as it would be a combination of the two in differing degrees.
Robby may have the skills but he doesn't have the money or the temperment. And to a certain extent so does Sauter. He's a moderately talented driver but he's in over his head at the Cup level.

Tony may be able to overcome some of those shortcomings. He has the talent. Now if he can get the money to put decent cars on the track and good people around him, and Zippy is a must get, then Haas can be competitive. Oh there will be growing pains, no doubt. It's just a matter of can Tony go thru some down years while he rebuilds from the ground up.

We've seen Mikey do this with his team. Maybe he tried to do too much the 1st year. And his skills are not as good as some others. But with truckloads of money and a better stable of drivers, let's all realize that Jarrett's best days were behind him when he signed, along with a good group of mechanics and engineers MWR could succeed.

UPDATE: Tony Stewart is expected to announce a 2009 move to Haas-CNC Racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in three weeks. Reliable sources tell Sirius Speedway that Stewart will also announce sponsorship from Office Depot and Old Spice as part of a new, multi-year package with Haas CNC, and that Penske Racing’s Ryan Newman will join him as a teammate, with sponsorship from Jack Daniels. That surprise move comes as the result of an enviable situation at Richard Childress Racing, which now has five potential sponsors for next season, and only four teams. Sirius Speedway has learned that UPS will move from Michael Waltrip Racing’s #44 Toyota to the quarterpanels of Clint Bowyer’s #07 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet in 2009, leaving Jack Daniels in search of a new driver. That driver will be Newman, who is set to sign-on with Stewart at Haas CNC.(Sirius NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway)(7-7-2008)

Hell i think it would be funny if all this hype of haas and he goes to someone else!
But...but...but...but... it's no longer "sources" telling us Tony's going to HAaS. Now, it's "reliable sources." ;)

I'd like to see the Wood's, Haas, and Yates merge. They could call it WHY Racing. ;)

hes gonna get infront of everybody at indy and say screw the asphalt im going dirt late model racing full time.....hes gonna get smart and say it one of these times lol
