The ugliest car ever

I always thought that the Bugatti Veyron was the ugliest car ever made. Well, the French seem to have this corner of the market staked out. Peugeot has unvieled this horror at the Frankfurt Motor Show:

It's called the Peugeot BB1 Concept, and it was designed based on a human fetus.

Those backseats look about as comfortable as riding a bike with no seat. For the record, I'm for abortion when it comes to horrible car design.

Not much different from the Smart Car. I could see it as a commuter car. Definitely not a family car by American standards.

Functionally, it's not much different from a Smart Car. I have no doubt that if put into production it would serve it's purpose.

But I was speaking from pure visual stand-point. Something about the strange windshield, and the odd "face" on the front will haunt my dreams.

Also, I never understood the idea of an "urban" car like this. I don't know about the rest of the world, but living in downtown Chicago is VERY expensive. Those that have condos can afford to park a car downtown. But the people that this car would appeal to, the young college students demographic, will stick to the much cheaper public transit option.

That "thing" would never make it in my part of the country. Somebody would probably shoot it.

It would last about 2 minutes on the trails that the county calls roads.

They're all gonna laugh at you!

I wouldn't be seen dead in a car that ugly,

You'd prolly get hurt if you hit a squirrel in that thing (and the squirrel would prolly survive).
You definately would not last one day in L.A. rush hour traffic driving that lunchbox.

lunchbox? I'm thinking it's an inhabitable beer can....

You know...I thought that the Pontiac Aztec was the ugliest...until now. Whoever designed that monstrosity of a car should be taken out and given a public thrashing for that insult to the eyes...

It's made by the French, what else do you expect!!

Put a beret on top and call it the Happy Frenchman!!!

Sorry, but that doesn't cut it. Never heard of Alpine? That 'French made' is just a load of hooey. Now go find that guy and start drubbing. I'll be around as your arm tires...;)

I was going to say exactly that, but decided not to reply. The Aztec, an American car designed by GM engineers. No wonder GM went broke. I wonder where they got those engineers...maybe France?

Not ALL french cars are ugly. When I was a kid my dad had an HK500 Facel-Vega. A Chrysler-powered, french-made sedan that looked kind of like a James Bond type of car. They are very pricy today. My dad's was red, here's a green one...

No, not all French cars are ugly. But lately there have been a lot of horrible car designs. Peugeot is infamous for making terrible design choices. Not just on concept cars either, but cars that actually go into production.

I'm not picking on the French. Lord knows that even the Italians have made some downright fugly vechiles that they'd rather forget about:

But design taste is different from person-to-person. My wife thought the BB1 concept was cute. Hell, I think BMW has NEVER made a car that wasn't sterile and lifeless in it's design.

At least until I saw the BMW Vision concept:

I pulled in beside a Smartcar in Lowe's parking lot. I swear it would fit in the bed of my truck. How it ever passed fed crash testing I don't know. I do think surviabilty in case of a crash in that thing has to be almost nil.

If you search YouTube, you can find a lot of crash test videos.

Surprisingly, the cabin frame holds up very well in a front-end, 50mph crash with a brick wall. The problem is that the occupents would have likely been badly injured (if not killed) by cabin intrusion.

There was another test crash with a mid-size Mercedes where the smart car was literally thrown away from the impact, and hit the wall of the testing facility.

Consumer Reports
In April, the NHTSA conducted front- and side-crash tests on the redesigned 2008 model, awarding the car four stars for frontal protection for the driver and three for the passenger. In the side crash test, the agency gave it five stars, though flagged a safety concern because the driver door unlatched and opened, creating a risk for occupant ejection.

"All things being equal, in safety, bigger and heavier is always better. But among the smallest cars, the engineers of the Smart did their homework and designed a high level of safety into a very small package," said Institute President Adrian Lund in a released statement. The ForTwo includes seat-mounted side air bags (as opposed to curtain-style, head-protection bags), antilock brakes, and electronic stability control (ESC).

Its much safer than my Saturn Vue.

This is certainly not the ugliest ever, but it is up there.

Allright, you caught me. I just liked the whole picture.

I googled ugly cars and found a surprising amount of AMC models. While they were not great looking cars, I always thought Chrysler had some incredibly ugly junk in the 70's and 80's.
