A man walked into a medical clinic on the west side Tuesday and allegedly took a 42-inch flat screen TV, but dropped it when the receptionist chased after him and ordered him to bring it back, Madison police reported.

The alleged thief, Jason Pritchard, 30, of Madison, was arrested a short time later, after the receptionist gave the getaway van's license number to police.

The broad daylight theft happened at about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday at the Odana Atrium Clinic of the UW Medical Foundation, 5618 Odana Road.

Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain said the receptionist looked on as the suspect came into the lobby and unhooked the 42-inch flat screen TV.

"He then proceeded to carry the TV out of the main door to the parking lot where a van was waiting," DeSpain said.

The receptionist chased after the suspect and told him to bring the TV back to the lobby.

"He started to return but then decided to drop the set," DeSpain said. "A woman driving the van picked him up and off they went."

The receptionist memorized the van's license number and told police.

The van was stopped on Westbrook Lane, a couple miles southwest of the clinic, and the suspect was arrested.

Let me guess...............when questioned by the cops, he told them that someone sent him there to pick it up as it was being given away. :D

We had a couple of really smart robbers. After they got away, they had a flat and called the cops. They said that they didn't have a tire iron and knew that the cops always had one.
