they are predicting rain for the 500

there's a 40% chance for showers for the 125's and 50% for the 500, so let's start doing a stay away rain dance.

This just goes to show you...

Even God doesn't like restrictor plate "races" :p

i hope not if Mikey is in the lead and there is a rain delay they will call it and he will win again. man i just don't like him.

I say if it starts raining...just keep on racing until the end and let the best driver win it all!

If it does rain, I say just let Mikey and Junior flip a coin for it. You know one of them would win anyway, so why not just save everybody the time and money and just get it on to Rockingham ;) :p

I've been watching the weather at least 2-3 times a day for Daytona. So far I've been lucky when going to races. At Talladega the rain went by in the morning, Phoenix the rain only delayed the Busch race. So now I'm hoping it doesn't screw with the Cup race.

Right now it's 30% chance of scattered showers for Sunday. Hope this all blows over quick!

I don't care what anyone says..Waltrip did not "win" Daytona last year. Had they called it with 20 or so laps to go, I probably wouldn't care, but just barely over halfway?

redrock,

Your idea would be great if the cars were equipped to run in the rain.

I guess you haven't noticed that the current Cup cars lack such minor things as windshield wipers, defrosters, rear lights and rain tires?

I wonder if you've ever tried to drive an overpowered, aerodynamically balanced, rearwheel drive car on slick tires on a wet surface?

Obviously not.

The scary part Bob, is that there are people who would love to watch that. Some "fans" would probably attend a 'figure 8' track ^_^

They need rain tires!!! Or maybe a little common sens in that you just don't call of the biggest race of the year, rather than postpone it for the next day.

Great idea... only because Robby Gordon would be the winner.

Nope, not at all. No one has the expertise and experience of running in the rain as much as Robby does. (Off-Road)

I think that Tony Stewart would differ with you on that. He did pretty well running the Rolex 24 @ Daytona in the rain! He put the car out in front! Not bad for a rookie rain racer! ;)

Quick. Name one oval track series that races on pavement that runs in the rain.

Bob, You need to lighten up a little bit, I'm sure it was meant as a joke.

BOb,

Try decaf! It wuz a joke ;)

My point is that I would rather see a race this year than a victory handed to someone in pit lane, even if it has to go until tuesday.

Good call RobbyGFan...you were dead on when you said that Robby would win it all. He has a good shot at it without rain anyway.

Enough of this Robby Gordon or Tony Stewart winning the 500 talk, it'll be Kevin Harvick who wins it!

Anyway, damn that rain, why God why ?!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rain on one of those unimportant races like Bristol or Martinsville but dont rain on the greatest day of the racing year!

Seriously, I wouldnt believe the weatherman, but if NASCAR doesnt delay the race until the next day or something and declares Michael Waltrip <_< the winner again, then those IRL jackets are looking real good. A fart on Mike Helton if he dare cut the race short!

 :owquitit:

I almost drowned before the August Bristol Busch race last year. Don't want it to rain there again! Hmm...actually it rained on me at Dega, Charlotte, Rockingham, Bristol, and Atlanta last year. Probably more places I can't think of. I'm not going to the Daytona 500, so they should be safe. If you ever go to a race that I'm at, remember to pack your floaties.
