I wasn't aware of the rules for Cup drivers participating in the other series. The explanation is good.
 
I love how he totally tiptoes around the chase complaint, and claims the other gimmicks have made the racing, the best ever.

The numbers don't lie. The original chase format was acceptable, the addition of 'wild cards' was fine until Michael waltrip's team screwed it up, but from the start, the elimation format has been a ratings/attendance disaster. But who I am to complain about the best damn racing ever!

The elimination format has definitely sped up the decline. I think Kyle Busch's 2015 "championship" is one of the biggest nails in the coffin.
