Ok so how bout this? Run the whole year with NO POINTS. Then for the last 10 races Give points.
Something like this: The top ten will be placed by WINS. TOP FIVES, TOP TENS and POLES. All ties will be included in the dash.. If less than 10 cars then another track place (2ed places maybe) will be included. More than 10 can be in the race but not less.
The points will be simple. Lets say there are 12 cars in the race. The points will be 12 down to 1 for each race. The winner of each of the last 10 races will have an extra 5 points.. Nothing for the most laps.
I've been thinking of a way to make everyone happy. Think about it and add what you' like.
Betsy ;)

 that idea is worse then what they are useing now, not drive will race 26 races with 0 points.

How about go back to the way it was before this year?

Anyone can come up with a "different" points system. However, few can come up with anything that makes any sense. Why not just run the first 26 races and then vote like in the Winston on reversing the field for the last 10 races. :)

Two races to go and there are 4 drivers who have a very legitimate shot at taking the trophy home at the end of the Homestead race.......5 if you are very optimistic. Call the present system contrived or a hoax but you are only kidding yourself or just plain stubborn if you think this system is not better than the old!! :) Go ahead and bash me or call me not a true race fan........whatever!! This season is a really exciting Championship chase..........that is a fact and anyone who does not see that is fighting a losing (and sentimental) battle!! Tweaks are in order and most likely will be put in place next year......but the basic concept is far superior to the old system!! :beerbang: :D :beerbang:

I agree. Havng this many racers STILL in it this close to the end of the season might actually make Homestead matter! I love how close it is.

Seems like a logical argument to me.

I think people who don't see the simple facts are wrapped up in media statements/opinions that two weeks ago had it as a two horse race.

The fact that my favorite driver isn't going to win the cup certainly doesn't make the point system bad. Apparently, I'm NOT the only Nascar fan out there. Who knew?

I may be a stick in the mud, but I still prefer the old system. I'll betcha Jamie McMurray would too.

I must admit that I was a bit skeptical when the C4C started. I'm still not totally convinced, but with 4/5 drivers with a legitimate shot with 2 races to go is a lot more interesting than some years in the past.

Personally, I would award points according to the finishing position --- 1st = 43 pts., 2nd=42 pts., etc. on down to 43rd = 1pt. 5 bonus points for winning --- nothing else.

EMP, fraid I am a "stick in the mud" too! LOL

If we must have a C4C then I would say reset the points to at least 20 drivers back and make it a 20 point difference (or the actual point difference if its less than 20). This rewards someone who has done good for the 26 races and still gives others a chance to break into the top 10 or even win the Championship. IMO, if you aren't at least within 20 of the leader then you need to try harder.

As to the actual points I would increase the points for winning, leading the most laps and give points for sitting on the pole. I would do away with the 5 points for leading a lap under a caution.
