BROOKLYN, Mich. – Joe Gibbs Racing’s Nationwide Series teams will be penalized for attempting to manipulate the throttle so NASCAR would not get a true horsepower reading when putting their cars on the chassis dynamometer following the Carfax 250 at Michigan International Speedway, NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said Saturday night.

Both the No. 18 and No. 20 teams face penalties for what was a blatant attempt to interfere with the inspection process, Hunter said.

Good for Gibbs for trying. The HP cut was bull.

Why doesn't the NHRA tell Tony Schumacher he can only run 250 mph because he's winning too much?

Why doesn't the IRL mandate Scott Dixon's car only reach a peak speed of 170 mph because he's winning too much?

MAybe ARCA should put tapered spacers on the Eddie Sharp Racing and Roush cars since they're winning too much?

Maybe the IOC should make Michael Phelps wear scuba gear since he's so amazing.:D

Maybe the NFL should force the Patriots to start with a 3rd string quarterback and wide reciever since they're winning too much.

Maybe the NHL should make Alex Ovechkin sit out the season so the Capitals don't win as much.

Maybe the NBA should force Lebron James to sit out the season since the Cavaliers are doing so well.

The first five words say it all. Expect JGR to get one major butt whuppin' over this.

Guess I just don't understand what the remaining analogies have to do with any situation dealing with NASCAR. Seems to me anything other than the first five words belong on forums where discussion centers on a specific sport and the athletes that compete in those sports.

I still don't understand why all the complaining you should of known this was gonna happen, every time a manufacture gets an slight advantage they kick them back down or give the other ones something to level the playing field.

The point is, Gibbs felt it was necessary to resort to subterfuge to hide how strong their motors are. Kinda ironic after all the seminars and books by Joe on how to win with fair play.

i would think TRD was behnd this more than coach Gibbs. and hey they probaly had the magnets under the pedals for the race also because Carl Edwards was the class of the field

You know the more i hear about what the guys did the more i think that was a pretty slick idea. Yes they got caught which just means they need to find a slicker way of hiding it.

Lets face it folks any race you see all the cars arent legal in some aspect. These guys were just doing something that you see guys with Crate engines in some series doing. They do some tricks to manipulate the dyno.

i agree. kudos to them trying. too bad theygot caught.

I think a certain driver or 3 from the 80's will be visiting the gibbs shop to show them how to hide it better

bloomquist would never work for them, but he knows how to get the most out of the rules. Ive heard the guy talk about some of his stuff hes pulled and got away with in races. Thats racin everybody has to find the next way of hiding stuff.

Jack Roush and Rick Hendrick own the sport. Toyota didn't win a single race last year, I didn't hear the Toyota teams whining and complaining about it. They said they need to work harder.

NHRA tried this crap in pro-stock in the 70s and it ended up, when they were limiting horsepower and stuff, the same guys kept on winning (like we have now in NASCAR:rolleyes:). NHRA finally said they had enough, run what you brung. The speeds got higher, teams worked harder and Pro Stock is now very competitive racing.

Jack Roush and Rick Hendrick weren't complaining last year when their cars and engines were the best and they were winning every race. Now they want NASCAR to limit the Toyotas while Jack experiments with new engine packages that is undefeated on the horsepower tracks.

Toyota did NOTHING illegal, and they get punished for winning a lot of races. NASCAR didn't go limiting Ford's horsepower last year when Carl Edwards was winning every Busch Series race.

Simply put, unless your Jack Roush or Rick Hendrick, you lose being the best.

Bloomer "Lite" can wheel a car, but his cheating takes away from his wins. The owners allowed him to get by with breaking the rules.

Andy since when did you become a Yota fan?

Let's see Juan, Harvick, and Robbie Gordon are your cars. I don't think any are Yota's.

I'm not a Toyota fan. :idunno:

I call it as I see it. Cutting Toyota's horsepower was ignorant. Jack Roush and Rick Hendrick don't complain like little babys

when they're winning every Spitcup and Nationwide race about how the races are unfair.

Dodge was only 4 HP less than Toyota. I don't see anything about where NASCAR took anything away from Dodge.

That was an extremely arrogant move by NASCAR.

Win a bunch of races and we're going to take horsepower from you, unless you're Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Junyer or Jiimmie Johnson.
