For all of the problems with ESPN's production, they did a good job of capturing how Jimmie Johnson was beating other cars out of the pits. It wasn't because of blazing stops by the crew, they were usually not even in the top 10 in pit times. Instead, he was beating them by cheating the timing lines to his stall and out of his stall.

Check out the award given to Johnson's crew. It seems these people didn't catch how JJ was really getting out of the pits faster than the others.

Johnson's Crew Claims Tissot Pit Road Award in Martinsville: Jimmie Johnson's crew took top honors at Martinsville Speedway, winning the Tissot Pit Road Precision Award in Sunday's Sprint Cup race. It was the fourth Tissot win of the season for the #48 crew, which has played a key role in Johnson's dominating performance in the first six Chase races, including his runner-up finish at Martinsville. Johnson's #48 Lowe's Chevy spent the least amount of time on pit road (329.445 seconds) during the TUMS Fast Relief 500. Johnson's over-the-wall crew consists of: Mike Lingerfelt (front-tire changer), Art Simmons (front-tire carrier), Jon Lucas (rear-tire changer), Andy Brown (rear-tire carrier), Kenneth Purcell (jackman), Rich Gutierrez (gasman), Mike Knauer (catch can) and Ron Malec (eighth man). The team's crew chief is Chad Knaus. Johnson's crew along with the crews of Greg Biffle and Jeff Gordon are in a close competition for the Tissot season title with four races remaining. Biffle's crew leads with six wins, Gordon's crew is second with five wins and Johnson's crew is in third with four wins.

I don't think the crews should know where the timing segmants are.

I think they need to stop calculating speed via timing segements, put speedometers in the car, and just use the actual car speed. You go over the pit road speed, it's a stop & go.

Score the pavement so it looks like there's a timing line every other pit stall.

guess you never heard of Mike Rich:(

I think he ment that there's no need to change from the current format. Not that there should be no pit-road speed limit.

Even when the cars have their speeds electronically controlled on pit road like in F1, accidents still happen.

The danger will never be out of the sport, period. Don't bother trying to twist my statement to indicate that someones life isn't worth protecting. Would it make you happy if they just pull into pit lane one car at a time?

I agree 100%.

If they don't know where the timing segments are, they won't speed at all.

Sort of like a speed trap on the road. If you know there's a cop sitting somewhere, you're gonna slow down at the speed trap. If you don't know, you're either gonna obey the law or get caught speeding. Same stuff should apply to NASCAR. There are too many gray areas and the 48 team is really good at playing around in those gray areas.

What would've happened if Robby Gordon had done the same thing Jimmie did on Sunday? We all ready know he would've been penalized anyways and/or the rule would've already changed.

OK, you confused me now.

Are you saying there should be no pit road speed limits? Just trying to clarify.

Absolutely not. I am only saying that the rules don't need to be changed from the way they currently are. I don't understand why things have to be changed all of the time. Let them race under the rules that exist.

That's the part that IMO is funny about this and some of the other threads. I keep seeing all of these posts about how Jimmie/Chad have this thing figured out. Change the tracks so it makes it harder for Jimmie. Change pit road rules so they can't have a fast pit stop. Change this, change that. Don't confuse my sig to indicate that I am a Jimmie fan or anything. There's nothing that I want more than to see him get his butt kicked each week but these other crews need to step up their game.

I'm not saying they need to change the rules to make it harder on Jimmie/Chad.

I just think it's a loophole they need to correct. Using timing lines is not an accurate way to judge pit road speed. They already have the technology to see the car's current speed, why not use it for pit road too?

As far as the Chase events, I've always felt they need to have a road course in there.

I think William Shakespeare said it best; Much Ado About Nothing.

And I think he was a Carl Edwards fan...

Good conversation, but I think everyone missed my point. Johnson's crew got an award for being the pit crew of the race, but the ESPN cameras actually showed they were 10th-15th best all day as far as their work went. So this award is comical.
