Officers Ram Suspect's Car To End Pursuit

HOUSTON -- A suspect was arrested Monday afternoon after leading Houston police on a high-speed chase, authorities said.

The chase started shortly before noon in the 1200 block of Fleming Drive in northeast Houston and ended about 20 minutes later in the intersection of La Rochelle Drive and Normandy Drive in northeast Harris County.

Hovering over the scene, NewsChopper2 showed the silver Pontiac Trans Am weaving in and out of traffic and traveling at a high rate of speed through Interstate 10 and neighborhood streets before colliding with another car at an intersection.

The collision slowed down the Trans Am, causing it to skid into a grassy side of the road, taking out a street sign, and then making a 180-degree turn back onto the road, ending up facing police patrol cars head on.

The officers rammed the Trans Am and pushed it back onto the grassy side of the street, where the car finally came to a halt.

Officers arrested a man who was driving the Trans Am, and said that he was originally being pulled over for a speeding violation.

I heard all the sirens and went outside. Missed the Trans Am, but saw all the police/sheriff/constable cars flying by. The smell of burnt brakes was overwhelming.
