PARKER COUNTY, Texas -
A dog was found bleeding, dehydrated and starving in Parker County after someone taped its muzzle shut with its tongue hanging out.
Parker County Sheriff's investigators are seeking information on the suspects who tormented the pug mix.
MORE PHOTOS OF HOPE'S INJURIES (WARNING: VERY GRAPHIC)
A resident called authorities Monday morning to report an injured dog wandering Baker Road. The neighbor couldn't catch it, and neither could animal control officers and about 10 concerned citizens on horseback.
The frightened female dog, about 3 to 4 years old, was finally caught hours later by animal control officers. She was bleeding from multiple gashes and suffering from a severely swollen tongue.
The dog, now named Hope, was taken to Bowie Drive Animal Hospital where she was immediately treated by veterinarian Dr. Buchanan.
The animal was dehydrated with a 105.7 degree temperature and unable to eat, drink or pant, according to the veterinarian staff.
Hope's snout was shut forcefully with electrical tape after her tongue was pulled out. The veterinarian told animal control officers that Hope will likely lose a portion of her tongue because it was exposed for more than 24 hours.
The staff says it took 100 stitches to close the wounds from five intentional cuts that were each between one to five inches in length.
Hope is currently on pain medications, antibiotics, sedatives and IV fluids.
Dr. Buchanan says if she is able to eat and drink without assistance, she'll be able to survive.
Sheriff Larry Fowler paid a visit to the dog on Tuesday and was shocked by what he saw.
"This is horrendous," Fowler said. "I can't imagine what would bring a person to such an evil act. We are fortunate to have found her when we did. Our investigators have seen some pretty terrible things in their careers, but this case is deeply disturbing and leaves us shocked."
Anyone with knowledge about this case is urged to call 817-594-8845 or Crime Stoppers Hotline at 817-599-5555.
If anyone would like to contribute to Hope's recovery and care the sheriffs office is collecting funds. Donors need to make checks payable to the Parket County Sheriff's Animal Care and Cruelty Reward Fund.
Checks can be mailed to the Parker County Sheriff's Office at 129 Hogle Street Weatherford, Texas 76086, Attn: Deputy Danie Huffman.
Anyone who wants to donate to Hope's reward fund will need to contact Deputy Danie Huffman at 682-229-2358.

I didn't click on the photo link either, it made me sick just reading about it. I'm a dog lover and I can't imagine anyone doing that to a dog, the amount it must of suffered......makes me sick.

When they catch the person responsible, in my opinion, the persons situation should mirror the dogs. I'm an anti cruelty to anything that cannot defend themselves person. Just sayin.
Didnt look either.

You know what I'm going to say don't you? People who do that "need killin'"
I won't look at the photo's either. We rescued a horse that sickens me just thinking about it again. She was kept in a mud filled paddock, her hoves were actually rotting, best guess was she was down to 650-700 pounds. We tried but it was best to put her down.

Story Update

PARKER COUNTY, Texas -
The Parker County sheriff's department has been overwhelmed with donations for a dog that was nearly tortured to death. Investigators are now hoping that money will convince someone to identify the person responsible.
People from around the world have been following the story of Hope, a pug mix that was found earlier this week with her jaw taped shut and her tongue hanging out. She'd also been stabbed five times.
Veterinarian Kevin Buchanan said the cuts were clean, as if done with a knife, a machete or some other tool. The injuries tore through layers of muscle and other tissue, requiring about 100 stitches.
And as if that weren't bad enough, the vet's biggest concern was the damage to Hope's tongue. He feared he'd have to amputate part of it which could have kept her from eating and drinking.
But Hope has surprised her caregivers. Some of the swelling has gone down and she's now eating everything.
"She's just loving life. She likes the attention. I think she'll make a full recovery," Dr. Buchanan said.
As soon as Hope's story hit the news people from as far away as England started calling and emailing the sheriff's department with donations and adoption offers.
"It's phenomenal the response," said Sheriff Larry Fowler.
The department has already collected $10,000 which will be used as a reward for information about a suspect or suspects.
"Anybody who'll do this, who are they? What have they done? What are they going to do? It's important to find that person. I want them," the sheriff said.
Fowler admits he's taken a special interest in Hope. He wouldn't say for sure but it's rumored he may be taking her home once she has fully recovered.
"I made the mistake of taking my wife by there today. We'll have to see," he said.
The vet said Hope still needs a few weeks to heal. She's staying with a foster family until then.
He believes she was once someone's pet because she knows how to sit on command and has been fed well.
Anyone with information about her past life and those responsible for her injuries is encouraged to call Parker County Crime Stoppers at 817-599-5555.

PARKER COUNTY, Texas -
The abused dog that captured hearts from Texas to London is improving, but will most likely bear physical scars for the rest of her life, according to a Parker County veterinarian.

Dr. Kevin Buchanan, DVM says the dog named Hope now has skin sloughing off the wound where someone had wrapped electrical tape around her snout.

Dr. Buchanan says the sloughing is a normal process and the wound is being treated with hydrotherapy and antibiotics. The tightly wound tape had cut off some of the skin's blood supply and will most likely leave a permanent mark.

"The damage was already done once the tape was removed," Buchanan said. "The left side is pretty deep. We anticipate some scarring, but we don't know how much of her hair will grow back. Her skin is expected to heal completely."

However, the abuse did not changed the dog's gentle and playful nature.

"She continues to be a sweet dog even with the removal of the tissue," Buchanan said. "It was obviously painful, but she still has not shown any signs of aggression toward us and [she] even seemed appreciative of our help."

Hope will remain in the care of Dr. Buchanan and his staff at Bowie Drive Animal Hospital for at least three more weeks until she can head to the home of the couple who adopted her, Charlie and Kit Moncrief.

The Parker County Sheriff's Office continues to track leads and take phone calls to search for Hope's abuser. So far, no suspects have been identified.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Parker County Crime Stoppers hotline at 817-599-5555. Tipsters may remain anonymous and several large rewards are being offered.

Locally a young guy, about to go in the service got drunk and when his puppy pee'd on the floor he threw him out of the apartment, off the balcony of a third floor apartment. This happened over a week ago and everyone in the dept going through the "book" finding offenses. If my daughter gets her way he'll be 87 by the time he gets out of jail. Sadly the puppy, a Golden Retreiver didn't survive.
My Dad taught me a lot, one thing was if a person abuses a animal there is no telling what they would eventually do to another person. I've found that to be 100%+ true.

Another one. This one wasn't so lucky.

North Texas animal advocates are sharing their thoughts after someone tortured a Kaufman county dog.
Authorities say someone taped the dog's mouth shut.
The dog was already dead when deputies discovered the animal.
"Dogs don't sweat like humans do, dogs pant to keep cool, that's they're main way of keeping cool, we don't know why someone did this," said Maura Davies of the SPCA.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals posted a five thousand dollar reward for information that leads to an arrest.
This is the second high profile animal abuse case this month involving a suspect taping a dog's mouth shut.
A Parker county, nicknamed Hope, was abused in the same way, and stabbed, but survived her injuries.
Hope was adopted by people who own a Parker county ranch.
There is also a reward for information that leads to an arrest in that case.

I have to go hug my 2 malamutes now, how anyone can do this to a poor dog.....arrrggh.:(

The guy who threw the puppy and killed the Golden puppy has some sort of hearing Tuesday. My daughter will be testifying, if she gets her way he'll get the chair!:)
We're surrounded by lots of sick people.

God I hate this type of sheet. I hope that justice is served here.

Just absolutely disgusting somebody is capable of this stuff. I don't get it. I've never laid a hand on an animal and never will. Guess we know their next step.
