JACKSONVILLE, Florida (AP) -- A 2-year-old left alone for nearly three weeks while her mother was behind bars survived by eating mustard, ketchup, rice and raw pasta, police said.

The toddler was watching cartoons when found by her father, police said Monday. She was suffering from malnutrition and was being treated at Wolfson Children's Hospital, police said.

Dakeysha Lee, 22, was charged Monday with child abuse because she didn't let anyone know that her daughter was alone in her apartment, police said. She was jailed Sept. 10 on unrelated charges.

Ogden Lee, who is separated from the girl's mother, said he talked to her by telephone at the jail Sunday and she said their daughter was with neighbors.

When he got into the apartment, the youngster had dragged food and toys into her mother's bedroom and was lying in a baby's bathtub. She was covered with dried ketchup, Lee said.

"She grabbed me and wouldn't let go of me," Lee said. "It is really a miracle how good a shape my daughter is in. I don't know how she did it."


These types of people don't deserve children. :angry: :angry: :dual9mm:
 
I hope they put her UNDER the jail when they are done. This woman.....................I'm at a loss for words................ :angry: :angry: :angry:
 
This breaks my heart. Thank God her father found her. You are right Bow people like this do not deserve kids, but yet there are so many stupid people in this world that do have kids and don't take care of them. It kills me, if you care that little about the child why not give her to a family that would want her and love her. Kids are the most precious gift we have.

Bravo Dee, I know personally a couple that cannot have kids and cannot afford adoption right know and it is killing them. This is really a screwed up world.
 
I wish you needed a license or had to pass a test before having kids.

This reminds me of several students I had over the years whose parents neglected them. It's a wonder the kids turned out as sane as they did.
 
It's amazing in a bad way what people do to other people these days. Thank God that they found this child and were able to treat her for her injuries.

I would like the mother charged with neglect, child abuse and hopefully put in prison FOR A LONG TIME.
 
This makes me so sick! I can't believe someone would put a child through this. Can you imagine how that little girl felt--how alone and scared she must have been. I have two daughters of my own, even my little one still runs to me when she's scared and that little one had no one! :angry: I'd love to make that momma sorry she ever did that. The sad things is she probably doesn't even care that she did it :( I hope that father steps up and takes care of that little one. Her guardian angel sure worked over time for her :lilangel:
 
I'm guessing Dakeysha (that's an irish name isn't it?) isn't at all fazed by this and in fact continues to have kids so as to keep getting that "mother's day check" coming every month. Unbelieveable :angry:
