Farmers Insurance will sponsor Hendrick Motorsports driver Mark Martin with a five-race deal to be the primary sponsor of the #25 Chevrolet. Martin will drive the special #25 with a special “throwback” paint scheme.

“This partnership makes a lot of sense for Farmers,” said Paul Patsis, president of Enterprise Marketing for Farmers Insurance. “NASCAR fans are among the sports world’s most loyal and passionate. This is a great opportunity to show them why Farmers is an industry leader, just like Farmers customer and world-class driver Mark Martin.”

Martin and the famed #25 car will make their Sprint Cup debut at the May 21st NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.

The special paint scheme will look like the #25 cars driven for the first time 25-years ago by legendary driver Tim Richmond. Richmond and crew chief Harry Hyde won seven races in the red #25 hot rod.

“We’re excited about this new partnership with Farmers and the opportunity to represent its nearly 24,000 employees and more than 50,000 agents,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “It’s an innovative company with very strong corporate values, and I’m confident that we’ll continue to work together for a long time to come.

“When you have a partner that’s essentially new to the sport, kicking off a program with a nod to the past is a unique approach. The No. 25 was my dad’s car, and it’s always held a special place in our history. Farmers choosing this paint scheme for its first race with Mark and Hendrick Motorsports means a lot, and I think our fans will really like it.”

“I’m proud to be associated with Farmers Insurance,” said Martin, 52, a 40-time Sprint Cup race winner. “I’ve been a customer for more than five years—my agent is in Searcy (Ark.)—so I know it’s a terrific company that offers the highest quality products and services.

“Bringing back that No. 25 paint scheme is something cool for the fans, and it fits really well with the Farmers colors and how the company embraces its own history. I remember watching what Hendrick Motorsports accomplished in ’86, and I just hope the 25th anniversary of the 25 brings us a little magic.”

So he is just going to randomly be number 25 for 5 races?

I think that the #25 is just for the All-Star race. I also read that Johnson with be running the #5 during the All-Star race for some kind of Lowes promotion.

More than just the all-star race.
How does that affect the 5 cars' points?
Or does it at all?

While we are at it why not have Kahne run the 34, Jr the 97, and Stewart the 54S

Well from what Jayski said he's only doing the 25 car in the All-Star race which is probably because Jimmie Johnson might use the 5 car for this 5% off with the Lowes Credit Card.

I was wondering if they're going to commemerate Tim, why didn't they get just get Folgers to sponsor the car for the All Star race or how about this: it's not like Rick Hendrick doesn't have the money, just change the car for 5 select races as well as the All Star to the #25 Folgers coffee TG Shepherd Machine. The 5 races could be: Darlington, Pocono, Richmond, Daytona 400 miler in July & finaly the Watkins Glen race. Those were all places where Tim won at during his 1986 run.

I figured it would be the Folgers car too, I don't remember Farmers being on the car.

Boy, thats one sweet looking machine, much better than the die-cast cars they run today.
Sucks the final flu got him, he had a ton of promise.

It looks more like the #25 car Craven drove for Hendrick in 1997 than it does Tim's #25.

Richmond's was more of a deeper red. Here are some pictures from Tim's Watkins Glen win: http://www.glenphotos.com/timrichmond/
You can compare the this car with the picture of the tribute car a decide for yourself how much it resembles Tim's colors.

Plus, the car Tim drove looked a lot like a Chevrolet you could purchase and not some generic-looking thing where the only basic difference is the decals.

5%? Hell I get a better deal than that from Lowes because I'm retired military (10%)!?

The only thing that is the same is,they both say Chevrolet on them.
Not to be picky, but do they? I don't think they do on the front. The POS car says "Impala" and Tim's #25 has "Chevrolet" within the bow tie.

At the risk coming off overly negative and sounding like a disgruntled "Old Guard," the biggest similarity I can see is both cars have four black tires that say Goodyear.

It's just another half assed marketing gimmick like Jr driving the Wrangler car last season. Sorry but I think it's stupid. Get Folgers to sponsor it, make the paint scheme the same (which this clearly is not) and maybe the occasional NASCAR fan will get excited about it. I don't know about you guys but these so called "throw back" and "tribute" paint schemes are pretty lame.

I thought Jrs' was pretty cool, but this car is nothing like the one i remember and I don't think most people will associate it with Richmond.

I actually liked Jr's car because it looked like the car it was paying tribute too. This POS looks nothing like Tim's car unless they change it around before it makes it's debut.

i liked jr's wrangler car but this doesn't look anything like tim's paint scheme. it's like they decided to put jj in the #5 and had to do something with mark. put him in the #25 and say it's tim's old paint scheme because most new nascar fans won't know the difference. my guess is folger's didn't want to be associated with it (or wouldn't pay) so they put farmer's insurance and colors on as the sponsor. hey, it is sorta close if you weren't around when tim was racing. just one big fubar for those that were around then. besides, we're (old guard) aren't who nascar markets too.

Not that I want to argue with you guys and I do believe most of what is said is true, but the two cars are numbered 25. :)

I spect that nothing short of having the exact same car, make year and with Tim behind the wheel, there will always be complaints. The one thing I do like is that they are attempting to bring back Tim's racing. Kudos for that. For anyone who never got to see the man race, you have missed something special. Tim could wheel that car like a dirt car. Of course that was before radial tires were the norm.

Agreed! Can you say, "It should sell a lot of little toy cars?"

Thats more of what I was getting at. Jr's scheme was very close but this is absurd. This thing looks more like the 25 Budweiser car that Ken Schrader drove. They could have at least gotten the color on the numbers right.:bleh:

Exactly Buck, a tribute to Tim is somthing special like Tim was. Even when he was sick he was winning races.

Guys, the numbers were gold for part of one season and white the rest of the same season....

Tim Richmond's early season Folger's Coffee scheme from the early part of 1986. About a third of the way through the season, the team began using regular white letters vs. the black-backed gold numerals. It changed the whole look for the worse, but apparently it was a good change for him. After the change, he ripped off seven wins in the second half of the 86 season.

http://bench-racing.blogspot.com/2008/12/these-are-few-of-my-favorite-schemes.html

If Hendrick really wants to do something to remember Tim Richmond, run a Folgers paint scheme. This Farmers car does nothing to commemorate Tim.

These "special" paint schemes is the biggest reason I got out of collecting diecast. I had every Dale, Sr. and Dale, Jr car made by Action or RCCA. When Action started making chrome, raced win, ect I stopped collecting. Then every other race, Jr's car would have a decal moved from the hood to the rear deck lid and it would be another car to buy. It was ridiculous and it killed the market and collectors stopped wasting their money.

One or two different schemes a year was cool....and they were kept secret up until a week or so before the race. Now the schemes are announced months in advance, just to boost sales.

Jr's Wrangler car was as close as possible to his dad's. I saw a show where he said he made them put another stripe on it, they only had three instead of four, or the other way around.

Special paint jobs used to be only at the All Star race at Charlotte. Enter the bean counters who saw the spike in die cast sales. Cha-ching

Ditto, Jr's wrangler car was similar to his dad's
