Does anyone think it's time for NASCAR to come up with a new formula for the Chase competitors? If they did, it wouldn't change the outcome as it's going now. But it wouldn't put some of these guys so far back.

The way it is now, those guys are racing the other Chase drivers for the championship and the other 42 for the race win. They tell us the Chase is more important than the wins. So shouldn't the Chase drivers be awarded points among themselves? I think they should. The problem is you might have a race where all 12 Chase drivers are inside the top 15. Those guys all obviously ran well. You might have another where the 3 worst finishers could be 37th, 40th, and 42nd. Should they be given the same amount of points for a worse race finish? It's a tough call, but something needs to be created to let them decide it among themselves.

They need to do something. If it remains the same, Jimmie Johnson will keep winning the championship. NASCAR always says they're about leveling the competition but right now it's an undeserving driver winning the championships based on 10 good races.

The Chase was a new plan by Nextel to fight for the NFL viewers. It was supposed to add interest, excitement and retain viewers. It's been a dismal failure IMO.

Interesting how the points vary, 1 bad race can take you out after a good season.

according to the old points jimmie is not so undeserving.

The old points system hasn't completely locked Kyle and Carl out of it with no possible way to win either.

And it depends on what old points system. The one from 2003? The one from 2000? The one from 2003 with point totals from 2007?

The Chase doesn't reward good drivers as much as it more or less punishes drivers for bad luck.

If they're going to have a Chase, they need to have only the 12 chase contenders on the track so someone can't have their championship chances ruined by some third-rate neverwas field filler. Make 'em race each other.

EVERYONE on here knows I'm not a Kyle Busch fan -- but he was robbed by The Chase. He wouldn't even be able to go to the Awards Ceremony if the championship ended now.

It's simple, The Chase sucks. I like the old system better. I think they need to do a lot of tweaking if The Chase stays.

I like the Chase. Sorry to see so many of you are unhappy with NASCAR, but for about 10 years now, I'm getting used to it.

Don't worry, be happy. :)

They eliminated last years champion from having first choice of pit stall when the chase started. Wonder what the thought process was to give the points leader first dibs?

I would think the luck of the draw, the ping pong balls used to set qualifying line up would be fair. I mean if it's fair for qualifying why not use the same line up for the race?

Back in the old days of short track racing, they would start the races in revese points. Leaders would start in the back, and the lesser point cars in the front.

I'm for the Chase, because what excitement is in it when you watch the driver win it and have a 600 point lead over 10th place. It bunches them up a bit more and adds some pressure into NASCAR. In all other sports, there comes a time when teams have to step it up to perform and they all know this. Only the champions are able to.

With the Chase, it's the same way. Everyone knows what to do going in, you can't blame Jimmie Johnson for doing it exactly right up til' this point so far. Everyone else is just as capable. As for Kyle Busch, that pressure I talked about...he's cracked under it. All year long, win, win, win...and when it comes down to time to go out and win the thing; choke.

I will, however add that I believe it was dumb to add 2 more drivers to the chase. You want to make top 10's in racing, not top 12's...and having the top 12 in points, that's the worst ""upgrade"" they supposedly made. Just because the top doggs didn't get in.

The ARCA Championship Race was 50-times more exciting than NA$CAR's Chase. Last year, the IndyCar Series Championship Race was also far more exciting than the Chase. Neither ARCA nor IndyCar use a playoff system.

Racing has been plenty exciting for years without welfare "playoff" point systems.

HE didn't choke under the pressure. His engines did.

You might want to go back and check your facts. His cars had mechanical problems - aka "bad luck."

If anything, i think that the stepped points system is one thing NASCAR could learn from FIA. Use the same points system as this year for the regular season, but for the chase, those 12 divers have seperate points- 43 points to win, 42 for second, yadda yadda down to 1 point for finishing last. While FIA only gives points to the top 7 or however many, give each position a points value.

Then for pit stalls, let the other 31 teams pick their pit stalls (still in order of fastest to slowest by Q time), so there's only 12 stalls left. Then, of the 12 chase teams, the slowest gets the first random draw, 2nd slowest draws second, yadda yadda till the fastest chase driver is locked into their pit stall and doesn't have a choice.

Ok...so the team choked. They didn't have that many issues all year long, you can't argue otherwise. They've had the worst stretch they've had all year long during the Chase.

Then STFU quit watchin NASCAR, it is what it is. You like ARCA, F1, INDY, IHRA then take yourself to those forums and be happy.

You've obviously not paid attention to his never-ending complains and disrespect for the IRL then....

Andy is a born complainer and won't change for anything. I think that he actually loves to gripe and get people to comment on that. Steve, I'm with you on this one whole heartedly. :beerbang:
