With all the crap that has gone on with the Richmond race, it's time for NASCAR to finally dump The Chase. I don't think they'll do it. But we know they monitor social media. I have started a Twitter campaign to hopefully get their attention. It would be great if it somehow got to trending on Twitter. So all you Twitter users that also want to see The Chase end, start using #DumpTheChase to see what we can do in our own way.

There is continuous bitching with the chase and there would be continuous bitching without the chase. I'm not a huge fan but I've learned to live with it.

Don`t have a Twitter. I`m hoping this mess will finally push NASCAR to get rid of the chase as well, though I don`t expect it to ever happen.

agreed, if there was no chase I could see this same crap happening at homestead instead.

I think all these issues, aren't really because of the Chase, it is because NASCAR has been letting teams manipulate final results for way too long and the teams think it is ok. NASCAR just needs to put their foot down on this crap and move on.

I'm for getting rid of the thing, stinks of stick n ball, not motorsports. But I don't think for a minute that if a team is close in a regular race at the end of a season that they would try to cheat. Past history verifys that problem.

The NW series is NASCAR's proof that you don't need the chase to have a tight championship battle. Hell, usually the truck & NW final race is tighter in points than the cup series is.

I like the Chase. It's fun.
It's also never going away.
Nearly every sport has added some form of playoffs. NHRA did. The PGA did.
Playoffs are all about chasing the casual fan. Casual fans increasingly ignore regular seasons and only tune in to the playoffs. In America, the NFL is the only sport that gets tons of attention for the regular season. For every other sport, they use the playoffs to break through the media noise and tell the casuals - Hey, this is important.

MLB has been expanding their playoff system -- because it boosts ratings. There's so much media, so many different sports and TV shows and movies to watch. Most sports fans aren't hard-core. The big money is in casual fans.

It was a ratings grab, and it has failed in that regard. The ratings for the final couple of months wouldn't be any worse off without a playoff format.

There's very little evidence to support that. Ratings have fallen for almost everything on TV as audiences have fragmented. Nascar fell more because the fad aspect of the 90s/2000s wore off and casual fans drifted away to other interests. Ratings could easily be even worse without the Chase.

Chase was a smart idea. And, as others have pointed out, it will never go away. Nascar's media partners want the Chase.

The playoff concept for ball sports is to make sure the best teams are matched up against each other at the end of the year. During the ball sports regular season, one team plays another team each week, so a play-off at the end of the year with the best teams of the season to determine a champion makes sense.

However in nascar's regular season, every team races every other team each week. The best teams are matched up against the other best teams every single week.
So in my mind there is no sense in having a playoff in nascar.

The thing I don't like about the Chase is that a driver who didn't make it could have a better overall season than some the drivers that made the Chase. But, at the end of the season Chase drivers will technically finish with more points simply because they get their points set to 2000 plus win bonuses.

Looks like the overall effect is negligible.

Drop it, its one of the things that has added to the decline of the sport

Says who? FOX and NBC first bought into NASCAR when there still was no playoff format. And they bought into it again largely to help bolster their fledgling cable sports networks.

I never liked it , but it has grown on me . Watching teams fight hard for 10th ,11th, and 12th place is a lot of fun with ten races to go . None of them have a chance against the top three , but there is always a chance in a million like Tony got.

Chase is isn't going away, sorry.

Bill Sr. and Bill Jr. made their impacts on NASCAR in different ways, and different times.

Brian has made the Chase his contribution to the sport. It was a major change and it'll be his legacy.

Not going away while Brian is running the show.

Okay, but In My Opinion his legacy sucks.

NASCAR will dump the Chase as soon as it thinks its fans are smarter than a bunch of herd animals.

Meaning never.

all you smart fellers are forgettin 1 thing !

nbc just signed 10 yr deal fer record $$$ they gonna pay nascar durin chase .
they "may" have a little voice in how it's run ? ha!

It's not going to happen. Most fans today love the Chase. It's the only thing they've ever known.

Saying most fans is a stretch.

What has been NASCAR growth from 2004 through 2012 as far as fans go? Surely cant be any higher than pre-chase.

True. The new point system itself makes the chase pointless.

You're going to have a close points battle chase or no chase with the new points system.

1 DNFs means you're pretty much done.

Now what we have is two things accomplishing the same goal. Chase and the new points. One wreck on the first race and you're out. Just ask Gordon.

Nope.

MLB is simply expanding it because too many teams were being left out.

Had little to do with ratings. Hell if that's what they're after why not just have 7 game series all playoff long? As it is, the second wild card in MLB is worthless. Like you can make a difference in 1 game.

What is the reason they let non chase cars race in the chase? no other sport does this in the playoffs.
