NASCAR Asks For Date Swap
The Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram reports that NASCAR officials have approached Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage about a possible date swap for the 2006 Samsung/RadioShack 500 Nextel Cup race. The event is currently scheduled for April 9, one week after the Advance Auto Parts 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Gossage said Fox Network officials would like Texas and Martinsville to swap dates, so the Texas race will not air in competition with the Masters - one of golf's biggest tournaments. Gossage said no decision has been reached, but he expects the schedule to be finalized within the coming weeks, the paper says.(Scene Daily)

I with you one this one. I had rather watch paint dry than watch somebody hit around a little ball. I understand why people like to play golf, but can't imagine why people would want to watch it.

By the way, barelypure, nice icon! :p

No biggie.

I'd like to be able to see The Masters. That is the only time I will watch golf -- not because of the golf, but because of the beautiful scenery. LOL

I understand some people like to watch golf, it just doesn't do anything for me. Well that's not entirely true it usually puts me to sleep. I get bored easily, so I need some excitement when I am watching sports. :)

I wouldnt mind THAT much...although considering 2006 season tickets are already on sale, might have to reprint the tickets with the right date....

Texas Says No To Date Change
Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage says the track will keep its originally scheduled April 9 date for the 2006 Samsung/RadioShack 500 Nextel Cup race. Gossage said NASCAR and Fox Network officials had considered swapping the Texas race date with Martinsville, so the Texas race would not air in competition with the Masters - one of golf's biggest tournaments. "We discussed the possibility of moving the race date in the best interest of the sport, but ultimately both [the track] and NASCAR decided that we did not want to inconvenience the tens of thousands of fans that have already made hotel reservations, airline reservations and have bought tickets to the Samsung/RadioShack 500," Gossage said in a statement

It isn't unusual for people on this board to shun golf, nor would it be unusual for people on a golf forum to shun racing. Sheesh, I'm a fan of both but I seldom watch the golf on TV. Not because I don't enjoy it, but because I seem to forget about it. My friends at work who golf with me all watch golf and tell me what I miss. It's a real dilema for me, but if given the choice, I'd still watch racing. But, never offer me a job in the pro shop over racing cause then I'd have to say tata to NASCAR...at least on my terms. :)

Say what you will about golf on TV or racing, but think of those poor souls who race to their TV sets to watch bowling. :) Hey, I used to do that as well. :beerbang:

That makes sense Eagle. Thinking of the fans this far in advance is kewl and unusual.
