TNT Plus ???

Here's what it says:

"I’m hearing that Turner Broadcasting is planning on upping the ante for the 2003 season. Their Turner Network Television (TNT) channel is planning some changes to generate more profit for Turner Broadcasting. Turner is planning on moving the NASCAR races and NBA games to a new channel that may be named TNT Plus.

Word is that Turner Broadcasting is planning on at least a 10% cost hike for the new channel. If cable companies don’t come up with the additional costs and subscribe to the channel, then race fans that rely on cable TV to watch the races will be out of luck. The cable companies would continue to get the regular TNT programming, but not the Winston Cup races or NBA games. This will work in favor of the satellite venders, but those fans who are mired in cities who have banned the use of satellite dishes in certain zoned areas to placate the cable companies, may also be out of luck to get race coverage."

The question is when aren't they looking to cash in on fans. I hope this TNT Plus doesn't end up becoming a reality, but wouldn't really surprise me if it did.

Ted Turner's entire gig is centered on controlling cable television and all it's markets. TNT Plus WILL happen. Bet on it.

Great, so we'd have to pay EXTRA money for races? Some people don't make enough money and only can get NBC let alone TNT. I know these people are few and far between, but uping the price just for sporting events is bullsh!t.

I'm so glad I have to spend more money to watch something I enjoy, thank god the NFL got rid of Turner while it had the chance.

I'll stick to FOX anyday, it's a shame we'll only be able to see half the season now.

I would hate to see this happen, even if I had the TNT plus channel. A lot of fans would be left behind without tv coverage.

i hope the cable companys dont buy in, if they dont, we'll suffer for a few weeks, but, when he cant air any commercials, that nascash package looks awefully expensive to have all to yourself:p

Ted Turner is about nothing but EGO, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and control.

I will personally send him a blivit if he pulls this schidt off:mad:

Because I don't want banned:

I hope FOX buys the rest of the season and puts it on FX or something. At least they aren't greedy.

A few years ago when some local neighborhood associations made rules banning dishes the FCC (the government agency that controls Satellite TV) made a ruling nationwide that said said citys and neighborhood associations could not ban dishes in their rules. This is a national government rule that takes president over any local rules.

I'm not gonna bash TNT or anything right now, cause if it wasn't for them.. we wouldn't be seeing this killer points battle as it is right now, but I will say this.. I hope to god TNT doesn't go through with that crappy little plan they have. I wish Fox would buy out the rest of the season. In my opinion, they do better coverage, but I'm not saying TNT sucks. Yeah, maybe 1 or 2...3,4,5,6 extra commercials, but I'm just glad to be able to watch NASCAR. I love it.

I'm pretty sure good old Ted can do as he wants about starting up a second tier on TNT......but bet he would have to renegotiate with any intities he has contracts with to move the programming to that second level. NASCAR and any other business that has a contract would have a lot to say about whether their product was bumped up to a semi-premium level. NASCAR could agree, but bet they do some real hard negotiating and probably would make it cost prohititive for Turner Network Television. Some sort of guarentee which I doubt Ted could come up with. That's my take on it anyway.......we'll have to see.

I miss the old ESPN and TNT days. Some people say today's coverage is better, but I still disagree.

Do you mean ESPN and TNN? Some people say a lot of things I disagree with. ESPN and TNN wrote the book on race coverage!:)

I like what FOX has done, it gets it out to people who can only get the Daytona 500. I'm glad to see NASCAR has come all the way into network television. Nice to see it has gained national popularity.

Believe it or not, I miss Eli Gold.

Heard him doing football a while back and it just wasn't the same.

Yes, I meant TNN.

Please, put Dallenbach back in a car and bring Eli Gold back.

Or put Dallenbach on a barn and put a cow in the booth, I'm not picky.
