Mostly I remember the Mustangs of Tom Gloy. Not sure of the reasons for his shutting down this operation, but Trans-Am will miss one of its finest competitors.

Tom Gloy Racing will leave the Panoz Trans-Am series after the final event at Virginia International Raceway on October 27, 2002.

"As one of the most continuous and most successful entrants in Trans-Am history it is with great sorrow I announce we are leaving Trans-Am," said owner Tom Gloy. "We have had wonderful sponsors, drivers, and employees through the years; we thank them for their support and hard work that led to our success. We have enjoyed the competition on the track and wish our fellow competitors good luck with their future racing. Effective immediately all of our equipment is for sale."

Tom Gloy Racing has been one of the sport's most respected teams since its inception in 1975. His accomplishments as a driver, a car owner and team manager rank among the most significant over the past 27 years. He has driven, owned and won for Chevrolet, Ford, Honda and Nissan power. Over the years, with its sponsors, crew and drivers, Tom Gloy Racing has raced in Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Trans-Am, Formula Atlantic, Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART), International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), Corvette Challenge and Super Vee. In addition to owning his Trans-Am team this year, Gloy also served as president of Blair Racing and its Indy Racing League (IRL) entry. The team had a stunning year in only its first year of IRL competition.

Wow...any idea what he's going to do next? He runs the Banana Joe's Corvette (Leitzinger?) entry, right? Shame to see such a competitive team leave such a great series...

HS, you're into Lemans, Touring, TA etc etc?

If I made a board for this stuff, do you guys think that it will be active?

Tom Gloy Racing owns the cars piloted by Butch and also Randy Ruhlman.

Having a good season too.

Butch is currently 2nd in points with 3 wins and 8 top 10's in teh Tommy Bahama Corvette.

Randy is 6th in points with 4 top 5's and 9 top 10's.

I have no idea why Tom is quitting unless it to concentrate on the IRL team. Seems a dem shame to me.

Paul - I look at a little of every kind of racing there is, but obviously concentrate on NASCAR and other stock cars series for the most part. Tried soem raod racing and off-road racing ( along with a very ill advised stint shoeing a Drag Boat) in the olden days. You might try a touring in the "Other Racing" area and see what happens.

Thanks HS...Tommy Bahama Vette, that's the one I was thinking of.

Paul, I don't think a forum dedicated to ALMS or Trans-Am would get much traffic...lumping all together under "Other Racing" is probably the way to go IMO

I hav ea good source or two that is saying Tom Gloy racing will be moving ship to the IRL in 2003!!
Another shocker is that Team RocketSport is also going to the IRL but Paul G. is not driving the season but may drive in the 500.

Would that mean Tom is going to relinquish his presidencey at Blair Racing and start another team? Or is it in conjuntion with Blair Racing. Or just concentrate more on the existing team.

More questions than answers in my mind.

I think he is going to be with Blair but step it up and possibly run a second car? But that is just a educated guess on my part.
