Stewart announces Chevy partnership
Kathy Grindle/Cup Scene Daily

Tony Stewart is a man who loves racing. His passion doesn't just reside with NASCAR though; it lies deep within his open-wheel racing roots.

He likes it down and dirty. Along with his ownership in his dirt track Eldora Speedway, he owns Tony Stewart Racing (TSR).

"Our goal when we formed Tony Stewart Racing was to create a grassroots motorsports program that would compete for wins and championships, while promoting qualified drivers to the next level," Stewart said. "We've been successful, but in order to remain successful, we needed a partner committed to us and committed to motorsports."

On Monday, at an Indianapolis Motor Speedway press conference, Stewart announced that GM's Chevrolet will be not only the manufacturer behind TSR but will be a sponsor as well.

"It's an exciting day for us. My background with USAC (United States Auto Club) has been a long history and my involvement with the World of Outlaws hasn't been quite as long but it's been a lot of fun too," Stewart added.

Levi Jones, who finished second this year in USAC points will be driving the No. 20 in the Sprint car and USAC National Midget divisions for TSR. Chevrolet will be the primary sponsor, while Bass Pro Shops will be the associate sponsor.

"It's a dream come true to be associated with Tony Stewart Racing and Chevrolet," Jones said. "There's not a better place I could be next year, I'm just so excited I wish we could race today."

Tracey Hines, who had 11 Busch Series and 23 Craftsman Truck Series starts this year will pilot the No. 21 for TSR in the Sprint car and USAC National Midget divisions. Jones' main sponsor will be Chevrolet, with Bass Pro Shops as the associate sponsor.

"I wasn't always in the right situation," Hines said. "So now I came back and I thought, if I want to get with a team to win every race and have an opportunity to win championships, who would it be? And of course it's Tony Stewart."

Paul McMahan will dive into his second season with TSR piloting the No. 20 Winged Sprint car. McMahan will have Bass Pro Shops as the primary sponsor, while Chevrolet will serve as the associate sponsor.

"I just want to say that it's a great opportunity to partner with Chevy," McMahan said. "I've been struggling my whole career trying to get the perfect opportunity for myself. Tony gave me the opportunity last year to drive for him with Chevrolet. It's a perfect opportunity for me to get Tony Stewart Racing back into victory lane and to win a championship."

Stewart's mind isn't just on winning races, it's about developing drivers and opening the door for potential opportunities.

"It's been a lot of fun for me," Stewart added. "It's great to give back. It keeps me involved with both USAC and the World of Outlaws. It gives me an opportunity to help guys that need a break to get their shot at going through the USAC ranks and win championships and further their career."
