Meanwhile, Don Hawk, once Dale Earnhardt’s business manager and a fairly well-known figure in the NASCAR garage area, found out Sunday morning that his father had suffered a heart attack. Stewart heard the news and turned over his private jet to fly Hawk home to be with his father.

Stewart must have some ulterior motive. I can’t wait to read what his detractors make out of this one.

Way to go TS!!! Why do some people always seem to put a negative turn on something good. This is just another example of why NASCAR is such a great sport. I bet any number of drivers would have done the same thing.

Tony's genorisity should be as well known as his temper (which is always directed at himself for failing to live up to his own expectations...others just get in the way sometimes)

Tony is an OK guy. He's just gotten a lot of bad press lately. (some of it his own fault). People seem to think he's a target. If folks would just look a little deeper, maybe they wouldn't be so quick to judge.

Not the first time he's done this either. A few months back Dick Bergren was being inducted into, I believe, the Silver Crown Hall of Fame. He was working that day for a FOX telecast and wouldn't have time to drive there afterwards, so when he was interviewing Tony, Tony sprung it on him that he had his jet waiting to take him to the induction.

Wow, that Tony sure is a mean SOB huh?

Tony also offered the use of his plane to the Irwin family when Kenny tragically lost his life at NHIS.

More of this kind of stuff needs to be publicized. Forget swatting EMT's or pushing gold-diggers out of the way.

And until people start to appreciate the sport and care less about the driver's personalities, this will continue to happen.

And it's not looking to hopeful with the soon to be threeway marriage of NASCAR, MTV and the WWF.

well with some of the music they play it is MTV, and short track and some plate racing is WWE. so i say it is allready happaning

I think that Stacker2 commercial doesn't help either. It gives people the impression that they are together. Then theres the hype. What is it TNT says, Its all drama.

<SIGH>

Same old tune Paul.

People can do both you know...appreciate the sport and be interested in the drivers.

It would be boring indeed if it weren't for the personalities of the drivers and crew chiefs and owners. Just cars driving in circles with two breaks for road courses.

You take driver appreciation all far too seriously, Paul. Lighten up.

And who draws that line Paul?

It is purely subjective.

And we all know on what side of the line you stand.

However that side is neither right nor wrong.

It's a fact that if people continue to view these guys as something different other than normal people then these problems will continue.

It's not a fact that, as you said, "Just cars driving in circles with two breaks for road courses." if one doesn't have a diehard favorite.

For example, my father has been watching motorsports since the early 60's. Ask him who his "favorite driver" is and he'll tell you he could care less. He enjoys the sport without having a favorite, so your theory of it being nothing but driving in circles is not valid.

In your opinion.

This is strictly an exchange of opinions Paul.

You see it one way and I another.

I love racing. I watch the race. If DJ drops out (and man he was invisible this week end with a good run) or Tony has a bad day, I still enjoy the race. Kurt trying to get pass Ryan was exciting.

But I love the personalities. Watching IWC and the expert panel. Kenny rolling his eyes when Mikey starts pontificating makes my evening. And I learn more about racing listening to them.

And liking some and not liking others as much adds to my enjoyement of the sport. As it adds to my enjoyment of any sport. I like some teams (Patriots) more than others (Jets). But racing isn't a team sport so it comes down to driver personalities.

Idolotry! Hardly!

Uhm, who accused you of idolatry?

And, I'm sorry but racing is a team sport.

I have a favorite. When my favorite isn't doing well or is wrecked or blown up, I have alternates. There are drivers I always like to see do well but don't necessarily want them to win. But, without favorites to watch and root for, I find racing a little boring. Probably one of the reasons I don't watch ARCA, IRL, CART and F1 is that I don't know any of the drivers (well some of the big names like Unser, Andretti, Fitipauldi, etc). It would take several races for me to know the drivers and develop a favorite or two to make the race more interesting. But, heck, 4 to 7 hrs of watching races per weekend between Feb and Nov is a lot of time that other things in my life don't get.:) Am I not a true race fan, Paul?:)

Very well said, Lizzycat. :)

I agree entirely.

Well, apparently people here think it's wrong to view drivers as just other people....

Oh well.

Oh well.

They are just other people Paul. My wife is just another woman.......but she's special!!:) Anything wrong with that?

Well, when I said that people need to stop thinking that drivers are more than just another person these problems will continue.

If it wasn't Tony that bumped into that woman in the pits would she be filing a lawsuit? I doubt it.

Then I get jumped on with one person saying that appreciating the drivers is what I meant when I said idolatry and another saying that people that have a favorite aren't real fans. Neither of which I said. Perhaps people should re-read. :)

Okay........guess I was reading between lines. Possibly lines that weren't there in the first place. Sure "sounded" like it though.:) No harm, no foul.:)

It seems that the media, and the fans are into NEGATIVITY, and if there is anything negative...its Tony who gets it. No one remembers the Nice things he has done for people. Ooooooo he slapped the EMT's hand away....The dang EMT saw him get out of the car and that he was alright...it was a given that Tony didn't need any help. And the fact that the EMT brought it up 2 months after the fact....MONEY GRUBBER is what he is! I've met Tony a couple of times, and I find him to be very nice.:)

What the EMT did was questionable without a doubt. But Tony also has to work on his temper as well or the whole anger management thing wouldn't be an issue.

Tony's temper has given him the reputation he has, and it will ultimately be Tony who either repairs that reputation or allows it to be what it is.

Tony's temper doesn't necessarily make him a bad person, but it does give the media a channel to create the aura that has been surrounding him. I'm not saying it's the medias fault entirely, but when was the last time the media produced a wide spread story about Tony's kindness as posted previously in this thread?

Tony's temper brings excitement to the track, but it also brings bad press if he can't control his temper in situations that warrant a little self control.

Very easy to be generous when you have an abundance of cash and toys to donate. They seem to be the ones that get high praise for thier generosity. I noticed a pretty, young ladie with her dress stuck in the crack of her buttox so I politely solved the problem for her. Did I get any praise for my nice gesture? Did I get even a thank you? I don't think a restraining order shows any gratitude at all.
