Tony speaks after penalties

Before climbing into a Late Modified car on a half-mile dirt track in Terre Haute, Ind., Stewart said he wanted to meet Mook personally to offer his apology. He also said he needed help to control his temper.

"There's no excuse for what I did. It was wrong," Stewart said. "I don't expect anybody to forgive me, what I did was wrong. I think what NASCAR fined me was not stiff enough, given my past."

"... I need to do something to make it to where I can control my anger better," Stewart said after signing autographs for more than an hour at the track. "It's obvious over three and a half years, I can't do it on my own, so I'm going to seek professional help and get somebody that can help me learn how to control my emotions."

Wow, that's awfully gracious of him. And I can't believe he mentioned seeking "professional help" for his anger problem.

Michael Waltrip actually said on yesterday's Inside Winston Cup that, if it had been him, Buffy would have forced him to seek professional help. That one had Ken Shrader hiding his face in his hands, but maybe Michael inadvertently happened upon some sage advice. Who'd a thunk it?

Yeah, He sure seems to need it. He says that he will, but will he? Seeking Professional help in the public spotlight doesnt look to be favoring him. At least he is man enough to admit that he needs help, and will seek it.

I'll give Tony credit for facing up to the situation.

Well, I think Stewart realizes that if his temper continues to flare like this, he could end up hurting his career he's worked so hard to get. He's not getting enough help from his team, and he's proven he can't control himself, so maybe some professional help might not be the worst thing to try.

Good job Tony, hope it works out for you. And if it does work out, give a call to Jimmy Spencer and suggest he try it.

No problem, I cut out all the other stuff in the article cause all of it had already been posted.

The quotes are also being reported by some news radio and TV stations in the Terre Haute area, I would say it is a valid report.

This is why I can't stand Michael and his I'm better than you attitude. I remember a driver in a #30 car who used to get into alot of trouuble also

Waltrip is a clown, a little gossip queen.

Anyway, sounds to me like Tony is just saying what all his haters want to hear just to shut them up.

I think this part is funny:

"... I need to do something to make it to where I can control my anger better," Stewart said after signing autographs for more than an hour at the track

Tony mistreats his fans huh? Too funny.

Do people who teach anger management wear body armor to class?

Actually, I have led anger management courses before. They can be quite helpful if the person is sincere in wanting to learn.

Here are some more Tony quotes from yesterday:

On Tuesday, Stewart's words fell short of a formal apology to Mook because he said he intended to do it face-to-face. As part of the punishment, NASCAR also instructed Stewart to issue an apology to Mook.

"I'm really eager to meet Mr. Mook again to formally apologize to him in person," Stewart said. "I want to do it in person. I don't want to do it on TV or anything like that. He deserves that."

Stewart signed autographs for a little more than one hour smiling and chatting briefly with hundreds of his fans, showing no sign of the temper that has gained him both fame and punishment.

He was unshaven and wore sunglasses and a red T-shirt that read "No Fear." That did not reflect Stewart's tone, however.

"It was like having a heart attack," Stewart said, describing what Mook told him later. "I've had about the same amount of pain in my heart the last two days"

Stewart called the fine "light" and said he deserved a "stiffer" fine given his past indiscretions.

But to avoid more trouble, Stewart said he would seek help.

"I'm not ashamed of it," he said. "There's other people that have had to do the same thing. It happens in other professional sports. I guess the first step in solving a problem is admitting you've got a problem.

"I'm not ashamed to say I've got a problem controlling my temper, and I'm looking forward to getting with someone that can help me control that. It will make my life a lot happier."

It just doesn't seem in-character for him. While what he did was wrong, it doesn't mean he's nuts. He's only getting this professional help to appease everyone else. I doubt he really thinks he needs it. I hope he doesn't get fed up and just say "Screw it". That's the danger in all of this, I believe.

He's got to be pretty close to that point.

I'm sure he doesn't believe he needs "help". But if humbling himself to appease the soap opera crowd helps get people off his back...

Lets see,Tell them all to go to hell,And loose millions of dollors, and damage his racing career,Or kiss Nascars[Heltons]rearand keep his fame, and fortune.I think he went with the latter.;)

me and paul argue about tony stewart all the time...........i think that tony is a spoiled baby, but he is good for the sport..........fans like someone with heart like his..........he definately loves what he does..........the only thing i don't agree with is that young kids watch him do this..........i am only 26 so i am still young, about tony's age,but i have a two year old son,and if i was at a race and if my son was a tony stewart fan, and i saw him do that i would be PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!! i like tony stewarts heart..........he has a passion, but he needs to CHILL!!!!!!!!!!can't win em all tony.

Fair enough Fan of 5, but the whole spoiled part is bs. The guy worked his butt off and earned his ride. Say what you want about everything else.

Paul, Tony is great to his fans all over. No other NASCAR racer has ever come to Minny and autographed like Tony did. Jr. was here and Schrader been around before, but they didn't put in as much work for the fans as Tony did.

I would love to judge him by what happens on the track only. but nascar says otherwise.

Dont you remember the race he hit somebody after the race was over with in pit row??? I know that was a 1 time incident but if he continues to fall to his tempers will whats to stop him from doing that again or something worse
