Tony speaks after Richmond

Apparently tony spoke to someone foloowing the race last night. Found the following insight into his race....

TONY STEWART, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (30th):

(WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CAR TO FORCE YOU OUT OF THE RACE?) "It just started going 'ka-chink, ka-chink, ka-chink' with about three laps to go. I guess I lost the transmission. I didn't have any gears."

Glad that is all cleared up!!!

:D

Any news about the alleged assault other than the unofficial source?

No news that I have seen. Just for those who have not heard or read, following are the statements from Joe Gibbs and Tony Stewart.

JOE GIBBS, TEAM OWNER, JOE GIBBS RACING:

Statement on Bristol Motor Speedway incident involving Tony Stewart:

"After the Bristol race, the next week - I can't remember what day it was in there - we became aware that there was an upset fan. At that point, I went and talked to everybody that was with Tony from the time he was at the car after the race until he got to the hauler and got out of the hauler because we did have somebody assigned to be with him. So, I went and talked to those people. Basically, what they all told me was, they saw nothing out of the ordinary. At that point I just kind of dropped it and figured that was probably the end of it. Later on we find out that this person had decided to fill out some kind of a report and start a process - some kind of legal process.

"Basically, here is what our number one interest is. We want every single thing - whatever it is - truthfully, to be said about this. We would like for it all to be out in the open. In every way, we want to try and cooperate. I think that is what every single person in our group has done. We want every single part of the process and everything that happened, we would like for that to come out in this process. Basically, that is just about all that I think I ought to say at this point."

(ARE YOU SAYING THAT YOUR ARE STANDING BEHIND TONY AT THIS POINT?) "From every bit of research and all the people we had, I'm not even sure of exactly what all happened on the other side, but I can tell you that from our side we had people with Tony the whole way and followed him the whole way, and I think the simplest thing I can say is that all those people have said that they saw nothing out of the ordinary.

"I don't think it does any good to draw conclusions. We've got a process that's in place here. I think everybody, just through common sense out there, would say, 'Hey, we've got to just kind of work our way through this and hopefully it just gets worked out in the right way.' Whatever the facts are the facts are. That is the way I look at it. That's what we want to have happen."

ON THE PROCESS:

"They just explained to me it is a process you go through and we entered that. I'm sure that they are probably going to be moving forward fairly quickly, I would think."

NO ACTION AGAINST TONY AT THIS POINT ON YOUR END?

"No."

WAS A PERSON ASSIGNED TO BE WITH TONY FOLLOWING WHAT HAPPENED AT INDY?

"Well, yeah. To be quite truthful, we kind of felt like it was prudent on our part. I wouldn't say 'assigned;' we just wanted to make sure we had somebody there to be with him. I guess you could say it's 'assigned,' but the bottom line is, we were just concerned because we were in the situation where we couldn't afford anything else to happen, really."

Tony Stewart Statement regarding Sullivan County (Tenn.) Sheriff's Office investigation.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va., (Sept. 7, 2002) - The following is a statement from NASCAR Winston Cup Series driver Tony Stewart regarding the ongoing investigation by the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office into an alleged incident between Stewart and a fan following the Aug. 24 Sharpie 500 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

"In light of the ongoing investigation into the alleged incident following the Bristol night race, it would be inappropriate for me to comment in any great detail until law enforcement officials have completed their investigation, interviewing anyone and everyone who has knowledge about the events that transpired in the moments following the race.

"I am personally cooperating with the investigators, and I have advised all the people who work with me to cooperate as well. I am confident that once the investigation is complete, I will be cleared of any and all accusations.

"I will say, however, that I did not assault anyone. In fact, I am shocked and truly at a loss as to why someone would make such an allegation."

I'm just wondering if this is legitimate or just a ploy for money. This woman needs to realize that the garage area is not a tea party. These men are working. They may have had a bad day or may be hot, tired, and in need of a shower. My advice, stay out of the way. I'm thinking, that in light of this incident garage access may be limited or become a thing of the past. It is a shame that drivers have to hide from fans. I hope this doesn't start a trend of people filing charges against drivers when they don't get the picture or autograph they want. This is just my opinion

Has anyone posted this yet? If so sorry. From Jayski's

According to men familiar with the situation, the incident began when Stewart was walking back to his hauler. With less than three feet of space between the rigs in the garage area, Stewart reached the side door to his rig and pushed aside a woman to open the door and climb into his dressing room. The woman, so far unnamed, then went to the back of the truck and awaited Stewart. When he appeared, after changing, she told him, 'You owe me an apology.' Stewart, somewhat taken aback, said, 'OK, I'm sorry.' Then Stewart, as he walked away, grumbled to his crew about race fans in the garage, remarks that apparently sparked the official complaint.(more at the Winston Salem Journal) also - After the race started, NASCAR officials had law-enforcement officials sweep the garage of fans, apparently in response to driver complaints about security issues related to the Tony Stewart issue at Bristol two weeks ago.(9-8-2002)

If that's all it is, I hope she's happy when she ruins the sport for everyone else.

Thanks guys, I hope to have some intelligent NASCAR discussions here. I promise not to make too many rookie mistakes:)

Preliminary opinion:

Let me see here....a person who claims to be a race fan, or at least has enough interest in the sport to be in the pits, is standing at the door of a team vehicle. One of the competitors, after waging war for 500 laps and many hours at Bristol, tries to enter the vehicle, theoretically to cool off, get some fluids in him, maybe even change clothes and shower. The fan in question has the unmitigated GALL to not only get offended, but to actually press criminal charges, for being in the way? I have been in the pits at Bristol; you have to leave to fart, people. It's that crowded.

Sometimes, there just ain't enough bullets.

This is obviously someone who wants their "15 minutes of fame" thats what their going to get, then go to jail for filing a false report. However, I wasn't there so who knows.

Actually, and I know this because I'm a parole/probation officer in TN (not too far from Bristol either, and I know the criminal judges in Sullivan County), they won't file False Report charges on her, even if Tony is exonerated. In TN at least, it is not against the law to bring charges on someone to later have those charges dismissed or not upheld in court. Fales Report charges would be used if it was a pattern, or if the accused suffered substantial damage from defending him/herself. Just to keep the record straight. :)

If/when the charges are proven to be false, and there is no question in my mind they are, I hope Tony, HD and JGR pool together and counter-sue her good for nothing gold diggen trailer trash ass for libel

And then make her sit down, and have to listen to DW,for 24hrs.straight.:p

LOL, yeah that too Pbunch. Seriously though, this woman has a problem (in addition to stinking of manure), if they don't use her and her ignorance as an example and publicaly stop her in her tracks, it will only lead to more bs complaints from more pathetic so-called "race fans" down the road.

Since TWF is around perhaps he can his two cents worth here as well.

Happened to see the local County Sheriff this morning and presented the scenario of this complaint to him. My question was how he would handle it. (He does follow NASCAR, but is not a rabid fan).

He said he would lock himself in his office, bang his head against the wall screaming "Why ME!" and then go about processing the complaint knowing that somewhere his dept will get bad PR no matter how it comes out.:(

HS, I think it's safe to assume Tony's doing the same thing!

LMAO Hard Scrabble. That is the likeliest scenario I have heard of. Talk about a no win proposition.

Hi Paul! I missed you guys!!!! Richmond rocked as usual! :)

For what it's worth, I listened to Tony some on the scanner, and he was having a great time joking with Zippy and Cronquist. Seems the team’s dynamics are definitely in a good place through all this!

Like I said on other threads, 15 minutes of fame.

PB, aren't you hurting from grinning too????? PURRRRRRRRRRR

Yeah, this "woman" and I use the term loosely...ha ha. (There are other names for her I could use)...is going to ruin the experience of the fans who BEHAVE themselves in the pits and not make a total a** of themselves and bring unwarranted charges on any driver! Just think, anyone who disliked any driver could do exactly what she's doing now! What a sad day for race fans if pit access is denied to fans because of this FIASCO of hers!
