Tony Stewart and Texas Terry

:dual9mm: What happened with T. Labonte and T. Stewart after the race. I saw when Stewart made a lame-brain left turn and bashed the frontend of the Kellogg's #5 after the race. Was it retaliation for something? I would think that Terry and Tony would get along since Bobby Labonte is Terry's brother and Tony's teammate.

I used to be a big #20 fan, but Tony just makes some really bad decisions fairly frequently. My favorite remains Mark Martin! Saw glimpses of past glory in him today!!

Did you all hear Darrell Waltrip get kinda emotional at the end of the race when they were talking about how awful the fans were behaving? Was he tearing up or was I hearing things? I agree with him... that was a poor show of class.
 
Waiting for an explanation, but it kinda looked like a tire went south and Terry happened to be in the way.
 
I'm holding my thoughts on this............I really like Tony. But something's going on with him.......hope he gets past it soon.
 
Kat that would have been so simple for Tony to say..............he did not even offer an explanation.
 
True DEW, but what the hey did Terry do to Tony to raise his ire if in fact it was intententional? Terry is a gentleman of the 1st degree and (sorry Tony fans) Tony probably gave out more donuts today than I delivered to Jimmy!
 
Who knows what happened to put Tony over the edge. Wasn't Terry caught up in Tony's mess with the mini "big one"? Terry's spotter might have gotten a message to Tony's and it was relayed to him........or maybe Terry flipped him off at some point during or after the race. Whatever it was it sure looked intentional to me......we probably haven't heard the last of it either. Tony is probably waiting the verdict right now.......and I'm pretty sure he isn't going to be too awfully happy about it.
 
Speaking of Jimmy. Is it just me, or does Spencer's extra weight seem to be a drag (no pun intended) on him during super speedway races? Mr. Excitement is due for a win... over due really. I like him alot, but the chips never seem to fall in his favor.

I don't know what's going on with Tony, he needs anger management 102 and a good whoopin by Joe Gibbs.

BTW...........I forgot the welcome you!! :D Welcome to the forum......almost everyone here is fun to chat and rant with!!

I'm not sure why Jimmy is so unlucky........he's had that problem since he got out of K-Mart car a few years ago. I remember the first California race Cutie and I went to he was very strong.........and if he hadn't gotten caught a lap down after pitting under green when the caution fell, he was a threat to win. How do I know? Jeremy Mayfield won that race..............and Jimmy ran with him all afternoon!! :D

It is just me or does Stewart act like a 12 y/o school yard bully who causes trouble and then blames everyone for it? Who in hell acts like that unless they have some sort of disfunction or imbalance somewhere. Was it a full moon over the weekend or something?

He is without a doubt the poorest sportsman I've seen in a long time.

Hes going to kill someone or himself if it doesnt grow up! Then to top it off at the end of the race him running into T. Labonte on purpose. For doing the samething he did to another car! :wacko: Im glad he finished near the bottom!
 
Tony has definitly been driving too wrecklessly lately.

There is a big difference between running aggressively and running unsafe!

Jr ran aggresive, just ask Jimmie Johnson about that lap he got to run without even hitting the gas....Jr didn't spin him...he could have, but he certainly let Jimmie know he's faster and better get out of the way...

You can send that message with sending the guy in the wall.

I just hope someone does something before a driver gets injured. The clock is ticking.
 
My Husband found this info about Tony and Terry, hope this helps.

What happened between #5-Terry Labonte and #20-Tony Stewart? Fox showed #20-Stewart making an abrupt left after the checkered flag and right into the the right front of #5-Labonte, but no further explanation was given and I have found none yet in articles or PR's. But have been told Stewart was avoiding some of the fan thrown debris and didn't realize Labonte was there and darted to avoid it, but have seen nothing 'official' about it.
AND As NASCAR ruled that Jeff Gordon had edged-out fan favorite Earnhardt for the win because he was ahead of Earnhardt when the caution flag waved, fans littered the track with beer cans and other debris. When Stewart crossed the finish line, he made a hard left onto pit road to avoid the raining garbage. That caught Terry Labonte by surprise, who was just to the inside of Stewart. As Stewart turned, he clipped the nose of Labonte's #5 Chevrolet.(Truespeed PR/Joe Gibbs Racing)(4-26-2004)
 
Safety Salad--------Can i ask why you are calling Stewart a lame brain because he cut in front of Terry or whatever happened. But wasnt it a couple of years ago at Talladega before the race even started when Martin just all of a sudden turned left down into Jimmie Johnson.
 
If iI remember right that happen on the warm up laps. Mark had a steering problem. Had to go into the pits and get it fixed. OH BTW. Welcome aboard SaftySalad. This is a crazy bunch and we have a pretty good time. :cheers:

Totally different circumstances. Martin had a mechanical failure.
 
Martin did have a steering problem as he explained. Obviously, he's not going to intentionally run into somebody just before the race goes green and he's on outside pole.

Johnson did some complaining - and ya' can't blame him - but it wasn't directed at Martin doing something stupid.

If I remember correctly.

You gotta respect Tony for his commitment to win, but when he becomes a moving safety-hazard, then something should be done. I don't think you'll ever see Mark Martin or Terry Labonte ever compromise their integrity as honorable and respectable drivers just to go from 12th to 11th place. These elder statesmen of Nascar have put in their fair share of laps. While they may not win races with much frequency anymore, they sure do win a lot of hearts and loyalties.

Tony may change in time (and lets pray that he does) but he could learn a lot from the #5 and #6.

I'm a Tony fan and some weeks I have not understood his behavior. However that said I really believe this week you people that just like to rag on Tony are going over board.

#1 they never showed a conclusive angle that he actually hit him, I'm not sure he didn't just get the air off his spoiler but what ever he was trying to back out and give him room.
#2 The blame could go both ways there, cause Kurt did close down on Tony. Remember on mirrors it says " Caution Objects may be closer than they appear"

#3 I heard people say Tony followed him lap after lap then all of a sudden stuck his nose in there. Just exactly when was this? I rewatched the race last night, when they cut for commercial Tony was a few cars behind Kurt, when we came back they were showing the wreck. Then thay showed a few clips of it happening. Sure looks like a racing deal to me and not over agressive driving.

#4 want to rag on someone for stupied moves rag on Mikey his move was pretty dumb for cutting down across Jeff's nose. If he hadn't taken poor Kerry out, (that straightened him out) he would've lost it and totally wrecked too.

What happened after the race? I don't have a clue and neither do you. Why not just wait till this week end to find out, I'm sure they'll interview both Tony and Terry.

Does Tony make some boneheaded moves out there? You Betcha, but no more than the rest of the guys do.
 
I know, But Tony Makes it to easy week in and week out lately, Sorta like he wants to join Bodie Racing Inc. I'm Just Kidding. :P


I think people expect Tony to shy away from on track incidents after last years controversy, with his anger management and all. I know I thought he would. :(
 
I kinda agree with Eagle...

While I'm not a huge fan of Tony's...I don't think he was as bad at Tallydega as other weeks. Most of his 'altercations' seemed innocent this week.

But unfortunatly for him, it's these altercations in addition to his history this year of being aggressive that have brought on the attention.

He'll need to be real careful in the next couple of races...
for right now, anything that happens around him will be his fault, just because of his reputation...
 
I think this thread is more concerned with the altercation at the end of the race when Tony made a sharp left towards pit road. As schader said he doesn't trust most of the other drivers when they are going in the same direction as opposed to going the opposite direction.

And I am not sure what Tony was trying to do. And I have not heard any real explainations for what happened (even on this thread).
 
I guess my point was, to me, it looked he was dodging something, not dishing out a payback of some sort....

But becuase he has the reputation now for running into anything and everything that upsets him, he gets called on it.
 
My two cents. Tony made his bed in NASCAR from day one with his attitude. Stewart is dealing with the frustration of being unable to win every race unlike the series he came from and won regularly. Tony is dealing with a series that has politics, a certain expected demeanor and everyone must deal with the frustration of not winning, regularly.
Evidently, Tony has not grown enough and cannot deal with the setbacks in a gentlemanly manner, continuing to display his anger and frustration in harmful ways to himself through actions on and off the track.

IMO, the deal between Tony and Terry wasn't a deal at all. Tony got pizzed because of the trash being thrown on the track by the various and assorted anal retentive spectators, and turned left, into Terry. Another of a long series of emotional reactions from Tony. Of course this is speculation (isn't that what this forum is for, speculation??) and MMHO.
Just another "Tony Stewart moment" (at my age we call them senior moments) solidifying his already preconceived and deserved reputation.

Tony sometimes gets unjustly nominated for misdeeds, just as people think ........ ALL ..........Dale Earnhardt, Jr., fans were responsible for throwing trash on the track surface before the conclusion of the Talladega event. Not all Junior fans are careless and disrespectful. Every driver or team has fans that fit the classification and there might have ben a few from any given group throwing stuff.

On the other hand, Junior did one absolutely unforgivable disservice to the sport, NASCAR, track promoters and other race fans by saying he thought the fan reaction of throwing trash showed "emotion", something he feels the sport needs.
That is an open invitation from the leader of the pack and encouragment for his fans to throw things. I sure hope he offers a retraction and suggests to his fans it is okay to yell and scream but under no circumstances is it okay to throw stuff, anywhere, any time and any place.

The people who threw anything at all were irresponsible and thier actions considered by many to be uneducated, immature and thoughtless. For those who think this is attributed to one part of the country or one group of humans, try a hockey game in New Jersey or a football game in Philadelphia. Now there are a classless bunch of humans. There is no other classification for people who react in that manner as calling them "human" is accurate, but not by much.

OKAY, just a few thoughts to let the readers know Da Whizzer is back from Deere hunting. :cheers:
