JOLIET, Ill. -- Tony Stewart took himself out of title contention before the opening race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.

A topsy-turvy season led the two-time NASCAR champion to cross his name off the list of drivers he believes are legitimate contenders, and nothing he did on the track at Chicagoland Speedway changed his mind.

"If you believed him when he said (that) ... you've never raced Tony Stewart," said Steve Letarte, crew chief for Dale Earnhardt Jr. "He's a master of deflection. He seems to always be there."

"Counting Tony Stewart out? That's pretty funny he counts himself out," Harvick added.

What a HOOT and it was written by Jenna Fryer. :D

and right here could go along with proving what I say a lot of times. People go all they can to make the chase and then they really bring it once the chase starts showing you can't go by this who would have won without the chase point tables people always bring up. Tony bought to the track what he knew would get him in the chase and now look first chase race he wins and is now a threat to win this championship if he keeps up the good work. I've got a few people I love to see win this championship in the chase and two of them are the top two then 5th 6th and 7th. :beerbang:
