Top Moment In Darlington Raceway History

I know I voted for Bill Elliott because I was there and slept on the hood of the car in the infield. So that was a very memorable race for me.

I loved the Craven/Busch photofinish (among others) and Darlington does usually put on a good show, but the most memorable moment for me isn't even listed.

My personal favorite Darlington moment was seeing Terry Labonte snap a 156 race winless streak and scoring his final Winston Cup win in the 2003 Southern 500.

I can't believe Jeff Gordon winning the Winston Million, beating and banging with Jeff Burton, wasn't on the list.

Me too.

58% - 2003, Ricky Craven beats Kurt Busch by .002 second –setting a NASCAR record
what amazes me, is that was only 6 years ago. Go up to a new nascar fan, they wouldn't know who you were talking about. I guess he's running the local short track circuit now.

Actually Craven works for Yahoo sports as there Nascar analyist. He was on Espn earlier for nascar media day, they brought him in to discuss nascar with Mike Masaro.

at least he's still in the sport then. maybe now's the time for him to get back in the seat?

Im sure theres a ton of energy drinks that would love to sponsor him :p
Maybe he should start his own energy drink...:p

When I went to NJ, I was like "What's a Loud Energy Drink? Does it scream when you pop it open?"

the Craven finish was incredible.... be hard to beat that one....... The Petty/Waltrip duel would have to be right up there as well........ but, for me, the most memorable would have to the final Southern 500........ it was a sad day for NASCAR, as far as I am concerned, but the reason it was so memorable for me is I was there. I was 1 day out of the hospital.... had about 100 stitches in my right arm ( had just had a fistula installed so I could start dialsys) and was all taped up, banged up and sick as all get out, not to mention it was like 300 degrees that day....lol. But there was NO WAY I was not gonna be at the final Southern 500... I wore that as a badge of honor, just the same as many of the original drivers in the early years, I survived The Lady in Black that day......lol

That's why I had so much trouble picking. That was my favorite moment.:)

I'm a Harvick fan, but I was cheering for Labonte to win that race.

Terry Labonte made his first career start in Winston Cup at the 1978 Southern 500. He scored his first career victory 2 years later, in the Southern 500. How fitting is it that he scored his final victory (I don't think he's gonna win the 500 but it'd be damn awesome if he did) to date at the Southern 500.

Now you don't have to look it up, because I already did.

I like the Craven win because it shoved the fact that this track has had some of the best racing in its history in NASCAR's face.

50 year-old Mark Martin winning The Southern 500... That definently tops them all. :beerbang:
