This would be the current top under the old points system

1)Jeff Gordon 4532

well if he had made the chase, i heard taht he'd be about 2nd or 3rd. but what ifs are nothing...
 
The top 3 drivers under the old system are having the best year in wins, top 5, and top 10.

Would uv, could uv, should uv..........it ain't the system no more!! :D How many years are we going to see the old system points (which, by the way, will get you a big ole Starbucks expresso.........along with 6 bucks!!) compared to the new system? It's the game's scoring system now..........the old has no meaning what so ever.
 
its also interesting to note that the difference in points between 1st and 2nd in the C4C system is 59 points and the old system 1st and 2nd would only be separated by 42 points INTERESTING. i wonder how close 1st and 2nd will be going into homestead under both scenarios.

I'll let you know! It's just interesting to me to see how the new and old stack up. Not that it will make a bit of difference who the Champ would have been with the old point standings. If everything works out right they will be one in the same. If it doesn't there will be criticism. I could care less who wins the Championship if it isn't the 18.

I was pretty happy that someone posted this info. I find it very interesting.

DE, I'm not sure why you are getting worked up over it. This info doesn't change who will win the championship this year. Whoever wins this contrived playoff will be annointed champion, and rightly so since this was what NASCAR set up as the process before the year started. I knew JG would be in first under the old system. I figured that would happen when I first heard about the playoff scenario being put in place. Jeff is the best out there, IMO but he still has to prove it. That is how sports work. If Jeff would have won under the old system and loses under this new system, I can't imagine him even saying one word about it. If someone brought it up to him I'm sure he would simply dismiss it with something like "that doesn't matter, because we knew the rules going in".

I am just curious as to how it would have played out, as I'm sure others are.
 
Actually those point totals aren't even from the old points system. In addition to the C4C, the powers that be also added 5 points to the points awarded the winner of each race.

You would need to subtract 5 points per win from that list to get the total under "the old system."

many of us are interested in the comparison between old and new. Those that aren't interesterd can read other topics, no need to flame here. keep up with the postings of old and new. :cheers:
 
Richard Petty, who came in 35th, got more points than Darrell Waltrip, who came in second, at the Southern 500 in 1974. NASCAR changed the points system the following year. I wonder how the points from that year stack up to what they are this year? Last year? I wonder if people are still pissed about the changes made that next year. I wonder how long you people who dislike the new system will continue to compare points? And, will those who have said that they will discontinue to watch, pay attention or even give credence to the game, will secretly continue to complain. I really hope they do, for to do so will say a lot for the sport and that they are truely racing fans, albeit disenfranchaised fans. :)

While it's true that the old points system would be a closer race between 1st and 2nd positions in points standings,consider that only 3 drivers would be within 100 points of each other,while under the new system there are 5 drivers within 100 points of each other,a much closer and larger group of drivers having a legitimate shot at the Title,with 3 races left.It still is a contrived new points system though and I still hate it.

I also think that as long as this contrived points system is in place,that each and every year the media,fans and etc. will be paying close attention as to Whom the driver would've won under the old system. ^_^ It's called curiosity,I also believe that in very few years will the Champion be the same driver in either points systems. ;)

I'm not worked up at all.............just amused at some people not letting go of something that is no more. An example:

For some, no matter who wins this year, it will be diluted with statements similar to what you said.........though I did take what you said out of context but to only to make a point. People making the comparisons of the points system in place now and an non-existent one that was used up until this season will always somehow find a way to cheapen whoever happens to win this year. And this will probably carry on for a couple more years before the game gets tiring.

I happen to like the new system for one primary reason: It lessens the likelihood of a driver amassing a big, comfortable lead early and then just coasting to a championship.............that's not the racing I like to see. The old system invited that type of racing and it was a long time in need of something to fix it. The new system seems to be a start in that direction........it needs tweaking but it's one hell of a lot better than the old system.

My opinion..............and it's perfectly okay for me to be amused. I flamed no one.
 
If you want an exciting product why stop at 10 drivers. Reset all of the points to 5 back from the one in front. Give everyone a chance to win. Now that would be exciting.
And, dare I say fair... :o
 
Yes, you do dare, it seems.

But no fair using logic when discussing these matters. You could easily upset the delicate balance we have here. :lol:
