Total Recall...

GM, among car guys = Great Mistake.

My uncle used to work in the Lordstown plant back in the 70's up until his retirement in the late 90's. I heard horror stories about GM products starting from then.

I went thru the GM plant in Framingham. those boys on the line are brutal.

Every car maker has recalls. A 100,000 vehicle recall is small potato's, Toyota had over a million

I'll stick with my Subarus, haven't had any major recalls in a long time.

Yeah I remember all the armchair quarterbacks that Tototas"fix" would not fix the problem? Well, I haven't heard anything else on the issue.

Remember the Vega?

Like cylinder heads with the durability of a potato chip?
I guess I never had it long enough to find that problem. I had a 72 Vega with a 2300 cc engine that ate gas like crazy, but it had plenty of pep. The Wide Oval tires were another problem. When it rained, it was like skiing. Scare the bejezus out of me one time. I traded it in for a 74 Pinto wagon (woody). Traded that one in for a 78 Monte Carlo. Had more problems with that car than any other car I ever owned.

It was the aluminum block that warped when just slightly overheated, the cast iron heads got the blame. Chevy's "fix" was to have the head checked and milled, if need be, and a heavy steel plate with emory paper glued to it that the mechanic slid back and forth for hours "trueing" the block while leaning over a fender.

Cosworth DOHC models were a disaster.

Had a '72 hatchback that we stuffed a 283 with a 2 speed powerglide in. Fun car,,,going in a somewhat straight line.

My uncle told me about how they couldn't keep the line moving fast enough, so they sent some cars out to the dealerships without all the trim installed. Things like door handles, weatherstripping, and 'chrome'.

Adding insult to injury they redesigned the trim and put a Cadillac badge on them re-naming as the Cimaron.

Remember when Cadillac had the promo "And best of all, it's a Cadillac"? They chnaged if for the Cimaron to "And best of all, it's BY Cadillac". Cimaron didn't last very long.
