Fans of the great racing action at Bristol Motor Speedway have a new option in trying to obtain the “toughest ticket in racing.”
Starting today (March 9), ticket-holders who find they can’t make it to the races will have an opportunity to re-sell their tickets on TicketExchange, a product of Ticketmaster and a safe, secure avenue to buy and sell tickets.
Currently, fans wanting to attend the sold out NASCAR Nextel Cup races at Bristol Motor Speedway go through often anonymous third parties for tickets that, at times, don’t even exist.
“We know there are reputable avenues out there,” said BMS president and general manager Jeff Byrd. “But we know they are costly. We also know, because we have seen it, fans at times have invested a lot of money in something that had been sold to three or four different people.”
Bristol Motor Speedway has spent years taking up the cause for fans by trying to gain manageable control of the re-selling of tickets, even going as far as trying to get the state legislature in Tennessee to amend state law. But those efforts were unsuccessful and speedway official chose to go with a system where fans know what they’re getting.
“We spent a lot of time thinking about this,” Byrd said. “We understand the demand for our tickets and that there are people who want them and have a hard time getting them. It’s a double-edged sword. You want to be sold out, but you want to get tickets in the hands of fans.
“We have believed for some time that people were being taken advantage of and in the 10-plus year’s we’ve been in Bristol, we have worked to try to control this issue by preventing scalping. That didn’t work. So, the only way we believe we can control it is to have it managed by a third-party we can work with. This way we know, if tickets are being sold on this site, they are legitimate and if fans buy them from a third party, they’re going to get the seat they buy.
Transactions on TicketExchange are guaranteed, giving fans a peace-of-mind when they make the purchase.
