Starting to look that way. If this happens, it will be the end of the truck series.

Toyota to leave Nationwide and Truck Series? Toyota appears ready to withdraw its financial support of NASCAR Truck and Nationwide teams, though continuing engineering support, in the wake of General Motors' decision to join Ford and Chrysler in withdrawing all but engineering support for those two NASCAR tours. There has been no specific comment on that yet from Toyota executives.(MikeMulhern.net)(6-22-2009)

If they do, then they are stupid. Racing in the Truck and Nationwide series costs them nothing compared to the $445 million they spent on their F1 program in 2008. Oh yeah, and they have no wins to show for it.

This is called "dodging a pothole, only to fall off a bridge."

I'd also like to point out that this wont be the end of either series. The teams still own the cars, engines, and make enough money from their sponsers to run the teams. They just wont have the factory backed R&D. With that advantage gone, it will level the playing field. At worse, you might see the smaller teams merge or downsize.

So if the teams don't get to factory support they will cease to exist. Good to know.

Two different things. Truck Series already has over 10 start-and-park teams and a lot of good teams who are on the same edge of a particular cliff as Iran.

Nationwide Series will be fine until they bring in COT. You can get a Nationwide/ARCA Body and chasis without an engine for under $15,000 easily. The engines and tires are what break the bank.

Truck series teams are already racing for minimal purses and don't have much in the way of sponsors. If they lose their factory support, it may eventually shut them down. Dodge has already left the series, GM pulled their support, and now Toyota may do the same. All the teams may have to run Fords unless they pull out too.

Its just a piece of plastic that caps off the body in the front. If they already have the bodies together and the engines in house then they will stay with what ever make they are currently with.

I bet some teams that don't want to go ford will go chevy because there are more available builders to go to for engines. Alot of short track teams run chevy for a reason because there are more builders to go to for the parts and engines.

if you check out www.racingjunk.com you can see what some chassis are going for as well.

Why do I get the feeling that nascar can't wait for all of them to pull out so they can decide exactly how the truck will be designed? Their engine, their nose piece, etc... Turn it into IRL stock cars.

I was thinking the same thing, a spec truck, I see it on the horizon.;)

Toyota has no plans to leave the Nationwide or Truck Series as has been reported and speculated. Lee White, who heads Toyota Racing Development, said the Japan-based manufacturer has eliminated its financial support in both series over the past couple of seasons. But technical, he added, support continues. "We're not going out of the series," White said. "We're not leaving. In fact, as we kind of moderated our involvement we gained truck count and car count in [both series]." White said it's unfair to say Toyota is following other manufacturers that have pulled financial support from the Nationwide and Truck series over the past few months.(ESPN Insider)(6-24-2009)

Thanks BobbyFord. I was just gonna say, anyway.....I wouldn't really believe anything Mike Mulhern said unless he said it under a threat of absolute decapitation!!!!! LOL
