Big Plans For Toyota
In case anyone was wondering, Toyota is approaching its impending entrance into the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series the way it approaches everything — big. The automaker is already making its presence felt at several racetracks. At Lowe’s Motor Speedway near Charlotte, Toyota has replaced Chevrolet as the track’s official car. And at Infineon Raceway in Northern California, a track that, like LMS, is owned by Speedway Motorsports Inc., Toyota is replacing Dodge as the co-sponsor of the track’s annual Nextel Cup race, which for the next four years will be known as the Toyota/Save Mart 350.
Toyota will host a comprehensive, interactive display for race fans during the event, which next year will be conducted June 22-24. Toyota will also serve as title sponsor of the raceway’s annual Nextel Cup Series preview show on Fox Sports Net Bay Area. The 30-minute special, which will air a minimum of six times during the month of June, has been nominated for a sports Emmy award in past years. And according to a report in USA Today, the automaker is planning to build an engineering facility for its Nextel Cup teams on an 89-acre parcel near Salisbury, N.C., midway between Charlotte and Winston-Salem.(SPEED TV)
