Toyota withdraws from F1

Anyone here honestly surprised by this? I'm not, and I doubt they'll be the last.

F1 has become too expensive to operate a team, and there doesn't seem to be any plans to do something about it.

So how many car makers have left F1 in the last year? 3 by my count: Honda, BMW, and now Toyota. 4 if you count Renault being banned for the next 2 years. Plus, they might not return once the ban is lifted.

Bridgestone announced they are leaving the sport as tire...sorry, "tyre" supplier. That's on top of lots of sponsors like ING and Royal Bank of Scotland leaving too.

Renault's board of directors is in an unscheduled, closed door meeting today to discuss if they will remain in F1 or not. If they leave that means only Ferrari and McLaren would remain as engine constructors.

The engine makers leaving the sport would go a long way towards that idea of one standard engine that's been tossed around for the last couple years.
