Team Owner
Travis Carter was a Nascar Cup Series crew chief and later car owner from the 1970s till 2003. Among his accomplishments was wining the 1973 Cup Series championship and the 1975 Daytona 500 with Benny Parsons. He also won 9 races as crew chief for Harry Gant and the Hal Needham/Skoal Bandit team in the 1980s. He ran his team Travis Carter Enterprises from 1990 till it shut down at the end of the 2003 due to lack of sponsorship. This team fielded the iconic No23 Smoking Joe Camel Ford driven by Hut Stricklin and later Jimmy Spencer and later the No66 Kmart Ford driven by Darrell Waltrip in his last two full time seasons as a driver.
