Interestingly points controversey was already brewing. Bob Flock finished third that year in the points hunt. He also won two races and had one second place finish. No other top 10's. But he ran more laps and led more races than Red.
Lee Petty finished second in the points. He had one win and one second. He also more finishes in the top 10.
