MrTRL and I pulled out before dawn on Friday, and drove to Birmingham to celebrate the little grandson's 3rd birthday --- 10 hrs later, arrived safely.

Saturday, spent the morning getting the food, etc. for the party. Great afternoon spent watching Aidan ripping open gifts. That night my son started complaining that his abdoment hurt like hell.

Sunday morning at 5AM, son was driven to ER. At 1PM, he was under the knife for a perforated and necrotic appendix. Did fine. By 3PM he was back in the room, bitching and moaning about wanting a cigarette and some food.

I came home yesterday. Left MrTRL there to help out my the daughter in law, and try to keep son from making an ass of himself. He's not supposed to drive for 7 to 10 days, so my hubby can play chauffeur.

Half of the weekend was great, the other half wasn't so fun. But I was sure glad we were there to keep the boys while the DIL was at the hospital all day.

The drive back home yesterday was just looooooooooong. And next week, I get to do it again. LOL

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Sorry to hear about your son. Hope he gets along OK. Glad you were able to be there for him. Whether he admits it or not I know he is glad his mom was there.

What an adventure! I'm glad that he didn't have peretonitis!
Can't Mr TRL take AMTRAK?

Now, what were the odds that he'd pop his appendix just when the perfect support people just happened to be there instead of hundreds of miles away?

Prof, I accused him of just waiting until we were there. LOL

He was released from the hospital Monday afternoon --- still moaning about everything that he can't do.

Would love to, Kat, but the train doesn't travel West out of Birmingham. You have to go North or South. Could pick him up in Houston, but it would take him 2 days to get there --- overnight in New Orleans.

*sigh*

Easier just to go get him. And I would put a dog on the bus. LOL
