Forecasters around here are very concerned about this one. It's forecast to track far west of Bermuda but they don't know if it'll impact the east coast yet. Regardless, it's forecast to become a major hurricane.

Cat 4 Danielle, Earl and another storm brewing. Bid'ness is picking up in the tropics!

And we're heading for the coast for a week! Been through these things in the past and it sure makes for a lousy vacation.

thanks god I'm heading north and in land, what a great time for school to start.:D

And even closer to Virginia!!! This is it....not all the toilet paper, bread, and milk in the world will be enough!!

Dude, its a storm. Chill out....

As long as it stays to the east, we're all OK. If the track takes it inland (which it doesn't look like it will), then you can start to worry. It's the northeast part of the storm that does the most damage, and that should be out at sea.

Of course, having had 8" of standing water in my garage and under my house from the November Nor'easter, I am keeping my eye on it.

After seeing the latest tracks for this storm, I'm a little more comfortable. Looks like a much needed cold front will keep Earl away.

Fiona's worth watching a little closer though, though she'll likely be a whimpy little Tropical Storm if she does hit us. All that is, basically, is a ton of rain. After two weeks without rain (and no rain anywhere in the long range 15 day forecasts), we could use it.

Sitting on the beach here in NC, I have no worries in the world...at least until Thursday when Earl will be either knocking on the door or we can ride higher waves. Hope we don't have to head home early. Just getting used to the sun, the surf and the sand. Oh, and a cold beer in hand as well. :beerbang:

Watching the various weatherguessers on tv and they all show a projected track to our south, some closer than others. Unfortunately regardless of which track earl takes they are predicting rain and high winds.
Rain+high winds=trees which haven't turned and dropped their leaves will be coming down.

We have a end of summer party Saturday too.

We just got done coming up with a 12 hour schedule in case this thing lands here, coming up with backup plans, call roster, all that good crap.

Doesn't look like it'll be a problem for us in Northern Maryland, but if I were on the Eastern Shore, which I'm not, I'd be worried.

That storm is a monster.

Well buckaroo...

I hope all this hurricane weather settles down soon. I am leaving out of Tampa on a cruise on Sept 25th.

hehe, benadryl, raincoat and hat with a chin strap. umbrellas tend to be more trouble than they are worth. ;)

So far so good. Under hurricane warning now. We aren't planning on leaving but are ready just in case. We are at Atlantic Beach, southwest of Hatteras. 25% if hurricane force winds here. Tying things down and will hunker down unless force to leave. Just now seeing clouds coming in.

Don't wait too long, buck. The situation can change in a heartbeat.

Earl ran us out of town! Shortly after I posted that last note, we got a call informing us that we were to leave the island by 5:00 p.m. They told us that we could come back since our rental was good until Saturday, 11:00 a.m. but what the heck, come back on Friday just to get things ready to head back home the next day, plus the rain in the morning? Nah, we just got things ready this morning and headed out. Loads of people doing the same thing...duh, they had to. Anyway, left the island by noon and though it was cloudy almost all the way home, didn't experience anything more than a sprinkle here and there. I'm now going to check and see where old Earl is and how back it is at Atlantic Beach.

If you're looking for TV coverage of Earl; The Weather Channel and FOX Nothing Channel have fantastic coverage. CNN has coverage as well but it's, well, boring.

Great job, MSNBC.:sarcasm:

Every time there's a big news story, they drop it to air documentaries or re-runs of that pompous ass Keith Olbermann:mad:

Looks like it's gonna ram right up the Bay of Fundy .... highest tides in the world meets hurricane fed ocean swell. Dunno how I missed being there on vacation.

There won't be if they continue to ram that pompous ass Olbermann down our throats with his very partisan, uneducated, uninformed, inaccurate political rants.

Huh, seems I remember you liking him not too long ago?

And then Maddow came on using facts and logic.

Keith is all rhetoric. He's a pompous ass who's so full of himself. Everything is Bush's fault, everything is the Republicans' fault. It's ridiculous.

Glad you saw the light on that one because I've thought all along Oberman doesn't say anything of substance , never has ,even when he did or does sports.

Got some calls from friends and relatives who live out where we were and they told us that other than some gusty winds, they didn't get much more than a quarter of an inch of rain. While we were out there, they predicted that Earl might get as close as 35 miles from Hatteras. Read this morning that it got no closer than 85 miles and was already a Cat 1 storm and was weakening quickly. I know they couldn't take any chances so I don't have any gripe about being ousted. The weather is great for this holiday weekend.

Weather guys missed this one pretty much, got a shower that was it and 5-15mph winds, The Cape got more but nothing like they were initially predicting. By the time it got here it wasn't even a bad N'or Eastaa...lol.

Earl was a dud. Not that I was looking forward to a hurricane but the weatherguessers were so far off the mark, again, people are losing confidence in their ability to forecast. Which could be dangerous when we do get walloped.
Predicted 3-5 inches of rain, got .89 inches. Sustained winds 25-35 with gusts to 70. Highest gust 33 mph. Lights never even flickered, told you if I bought gas for the generator we wouldn't lose power,:D

Did the lady who verbally attacked you apologize? :D

I haven't been back. My son got gas last night and said Jacob told him after I left she got into it with another customer.

I guess I'd rather them be safe than sorry...Weather is so hard to predict. There was a cold front that pushed through and probably came a little faster than thought and pushed Earl farther from the coast....
