Truckers Blocking California Highways: A group of disgruntled truckers are blocking some California highways to protest high fuel prices. Early Friday morning, truckers parked their rigs on the #10, the #5 and the #15 freeways and walked away from them. The fuel in California is running as high as $2.25 per gallon. Should the truckers decide to block the roads on Saturday or Sunday, it could affect the ability of the fans to get to the California Speedway for the Busch race or the Nextel Cup race. You might want to check your local highway information if you're going to either race.

And I've seen diesel going for over $2.49 a gal...........they have a legitimate gripe!! :(
 
Yes, gasoline prices are terrible here in SoCal. Prolly almost everywhere else too.

I had thought once about asking the posters to post their prices for their areas to
get an idea if these prices are all over the country or just in certain areas.

I just paid $2.19 for mid range gas last week.

I'm in Canada and it's 82.9 at the pump. (Which is very high for us) :angry:

dragonlady, there is a thread that addresses just that in the General Chit Chat. I haven't bought fuel in a week or so, so I'm not quite sure what the price is around my neighborhood. (BTW, I'm not working right now, so I haven't had to fill up with fuel. ;) )

That would make gas in your area right around $3.36 a gal......but that is also in Canadian dollars. Not sure of the exchange rate but I'm pretty sure Canadian is a little less than US dollar (forgive me if I'm wrong)............so I would say your gas is approaching $4.00 per gal!! You win.......or I should say, you loose!! :(
 
Here in Indiana, it jumped 16 cents last night. It was 1.70 yesterday. Today it is 1.86. That's a lot for this area. Our cost of living is a lot lower than Ca.
I sure hope that all of you that are going to the races are not troubled by the truckers acting up. Traffic is enough of a problem without extra obstacles. :o
 
They have a legitimate gripe. But, I'm not sure what good it will do them. :unsure:

thank goodness we are taking metrolink.............and we don't even have to get on the freeway from where we live to catch it either which is good.......but I tell ya..a lot of fans are gonna be ticked off if they can't get to the speedway :(

I could be wrong but I doubt it will effect the race traffic too much. Although I-10 is the freeway that runs closest to the speedway, there are three other east/west freeways that are within about 15 miles of the track (the I-210, the 60 or Pomona freeway, and the 91 or Riverside freeway). The truckers have probably done all they are going to do with this "protest". Even if they haven't they would have to block four freeways in both directions (or eight blockades) to be effective..........but I doubt they could carry that off even if I thought they would attempt it (which I do not think they will). There's also two north/south freeways (I-15 and I-215) they would have block......though they would only have to block the southbound lanes. That would make it ten blockades........I just don't see that happening.
 
DE, I heard that Metrolink Tickets for the race are no longer available. Ticket sales closed yesterday, but maybe they'll open things up if the truckers don't end their protest.
I wonder how much Guido had to pay. I know he paid about $1.55 per gal when he was passing thru GA on the way to Talladega.

Kat, I filled uo in Arizona and since I have an aux 78 gallon fuel tank in the bed, I can go 800 to 900 miles between fill-ups. With a liitle luck, I won't have to fill up until I get back into Arizona. I planned it that way. :D

I thought I was going to get caught up in that blockade since I had to go to Glendale late this morning, but I guess they got everything moving before I got into it. Good thing too, because I have a hard time having sympathy with folks that go out of their way to ruin everyone else's day because of their protest.

Yes, the fuel prices are high. But find another way to to protest. How about stopping all deliveries for a few days. That might get a lot more attention and sympathy from the public. But blocking the roads wins you no friends.

That makes me fell better....not! :( Usually you guys are 10 to 15 cents cheaper than we are...not no more. I filled up the other day at $1.87, of course I haven't been out today to see if it changed by us yet.

Canada is wierd that way...the last time I was up there, I gave the lady two of those funny $20 bills for $36 worth of petro & she gave me back three quarters? :blink: :lol: :nyanya:

What they say in the movie 'Big Daddy' is true...the beer up there is like moonshine! :cheers: But it's pricey...I think I paid $33 for a case in funny money & figured out that is still cost around $24 in US greenbacks! :AHHHH:

Guido, that is a great suggestion and would get a lot more attention, especially if the tankers delivering fuel stopped delivery for only a couple of days.
 
Kat.........that's not a good idea at all!! :( One refinery slows production for a day and the price goes up 10 cents..........truckers not delivering fuel would drive the cost up to around 5 bucks a gal!! It would also probably completely shut down the state. I'd rather see the interstates and freeways blocked. I don't know what the solution is.......but protests such as what you said is not the answer.
 
i think them blocking the highway is cool. them standing up for everyone in the us. :salute: but them blocking the race is going a little far. i would be very angered if i had tickets to the race and then i could not get there cause of that. ooooooo man i would be mad. watch out truckers. race fans get mad....... they are mad.

but i don't think that they will do it .... i hope not
 
I wasn't looking for them to stop deliveries on fuel.

It was more of an idea of slowing or stopping deliveries on other commodities.
