Bruton Smith wants a second race at his Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and he's willing to pay for it. The chairman of Speedway Motorsports Inc. said he's working every week to buy a racetrack with a Nextel Cup Series event so he can move that date to Las Vegas. And he's got as much as $250 million to play with.

A movie about the life of Richard Petty is in the works, according to the Roanoke Times. The title character has not been cast, but Dennis Quaid will play Petty's father Lee. Filming of the Disney-backed movie is expected to start next spring.

It doesn't seem like things have changed too much since last year." Newman was frequently critical of Goodyear last season. However, Goodyear engineers said that the tire failed because the sealing bead melted, which is usually an indication of too much brake heat.

Since Kenseth led three times as many laps as anyone else, it's not clear if this stat means much.

Tony Stewart and his Home Depot sponsor helped build a playground at the Salvation Army of Las Vegas last week. The playgrounds serves more than 50 children who attend an after-school program run by the Salvation Army. Stewart and Home Depot have built similar playgrounds in other cities around the country. The defending Nextel Cup generates the publicity and support and Home Depot supplies the materials.
