The session was brought to an end in spectacular fashion with Ralf Shumacher shunting heavily going through the Lesmo curves. Ralf was sent to the hospital accompanied by older bro Micheal. Ralf is belived to have suffered no major injuries. Ralfs car was engulfed in flames earlier in the session after and oil sparked the fire.

Ferrari put three GA's on track today with Micheal, Felipe Massa, and Luca Bodoer behind the wheel. Ferrari focused on tyre development and aero package. Together, the three of them put in more than 140 laps.

BAR also added three cars to the busy circuit, putting Takuma Sato, Button and Villenueve on track as another Bridgestone runner working on tyres and aero package. Elsewhere in Lurcy Levis, France; BAR had newly recruited driver, Townsend Bell doing straight line speed tests in his first drive for BAR.

McLaren hosted two MP4-17D's with Wurz and Coulthard pounding the track continuing to develope this years chassis.

Sauber, the quite sleeper of F1 was not asleep today. They roared to life doing race distance runs with both Heidfeld and Frentzen running race distances on brand new Ferrari C-spec engines.

Toyota graced the track with their presence in three forms, Da Matta, Panis, and Zonta.

Jaguar also attended the event only sending one car on track, of which was new rookie, Justin Wilson.

Renualt and Jordan are expected to join the fray tomorrow(wednesday) with expected drivers Trulli, and Alonso behind the Renault, (McNish and possibility) and Jordan will draft test driver Zsolt and regular Fisichella for their tests.

Thanks for the update. I cant seem to find any results for todays testing. Its driving me nuts... I do know that Marc Gene is subbing for Ralf and that it seems as if Minardi has joined the test craze as well. I guess why not, they are going to ship their cars to Monza in a week anyways, why not ship them a week earlier and test. The big question I have is; are they running the A23 chassis or not? It would be a perfect chance to compare the two.

It also seems that Ralf has sustained a concussion from his accident yesterday, and spent the night in the hospital for observation. He will be flying back to his home in Austria tomorrow to recoop for the upcoming Monza GP in a week and a half.

WEDNESDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER 2003

McLaren-Mercedes driver David Coulthard set the pace for second successive day today [Wednesday], at the Monza circuit in Italy.

DC completed 50 laps in total, his quickest a 1 minute 21.533 seconds – around half a second up on his best time from yesterday. Kimi Raikkonen was next up, in the sister McLaren, the Finn around two tenths slower. Both drivers spent the day working in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix next weekend.

Heinz-Harald Frentzen meanwhile was a surprise third fastest for Sauber, the German mainly concentrating on testing new aerodynamic parts.

Michael Schumacher came in fourth for Ferrari, while his team-mates Luca Badoer and Rubens Barrichello were fifth and eighth. Like yesterday, three F2003-GA's were in action, and the day's technical programme again involved a continuation of the tyre testing, aerodynamic and set-up work.

Michael's chief championship rival, Juan Pablo Montoya was sixth, the Colombian around two hundredths slower. Montoya's Williams-BMW was the only FW25 on track for most of the day, following Ralf Schumacher's heavy crash at the Lesmo corner yesterday afternoon. Although Marc Gene was brought in to replace the German, he completed only 4 laps, as the team spent most of the day preparing a new chassis.

"We mainly ran this afternoon, and not this morning, because we were waiting for some parts and the other test car to arrive to replace the chassis that we damaged yesterday," said Sam Michael, chief operations engineer at WilliamsF1. "In the afternoon, we did some aero testing, set up work and tyre testing on Juan Pablo's car. We managed to do an installation lap before the end of the session with Marc's car, so we will be ready to run that tomorrow."

Of the rest, Jacques Villeneuve was the highest placed out of the 'non-big three teams', the Canadian seventh fastest, while Renault's Jarno Trulli and Jenson Button rounded off the top ten, in ninth and tenth respectively.

Twenty-two drivers were in action in total, and for once every team, with Minardi, Jordan, and Renault joining the test today.

Testing concludes tomorrow [Thursday].

Felipe Massa continued Ferrari's two pronged test programme ahead of next weekend's Italian Grand Prix by running solo at Fiorano for the second straight day.

The Brazilian, still hotly tipped to return to a race seat at Sauber in 2004, made the most of clear skies and warm temperatures to complete a massive 155 laps of the private facility as he worked through the final stages of this week's tyre evaluation test with Bridgestone.

Massa covered all but 29 laps of his day's workload on the longer of the Fiorano layouts, clocking a best time of 57.851secs to go almost a second quicker than he had managed on Wednesday.

Although Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello and Luca Badoer will all be in action again at Monza on Friday, testing at Fiorano will take a day off before resuming on Saturday.

A few notes just I thought interesting for yesterdays testing.

Jordan fielded two cars to the chaos today, as Fisichella and Zsolt had a ton of work ahead of them as they checked off item after item off of the list of work. Those being: brake tests for the upcoming race, engine development, rear suspension revision, and new low downforce settings for the race.

Minardi, making a rare appearance at a test, fielded one car for two drivers today. Bruni worked on new aero tweeks such as a new nose, and engine cover. Verstappen took the car in the afternoon, but was hampered and lost time after damaging the floor and having it replaced.
***********************************************************
Jensen Button, Takuma Sato, Jaques Viellenueve, and Townsend Bell racked up miles for BAR today. Townsend completed 150 laps around the Lurcy circuit in france, but the story of the day was Villenueve who completed 137 laps today which clocks to over 800 km. Almost three race distances in one day.
*************************************************************

Thursday of testing saw not much change in who was doing what.

Ferrari focused on tyres.

McLaren focused on chassis development.

Williams focused on development, tyres and setup.

Jordan's day was a mess after Fisichella blew a gearbox and Weirdheim had software glitches in the fuel system.

Sauber driver nick heidfelds day came to a very bad end, after having a heavy shunt following unbalanced brake lock. He left OK and was back in the car that afternoon.

Minarid continued nose, floor, and engine cover tests.

Renault ended the new wide track michelin tests.

BAR finished up with over 5000 km over the last four days. With four cars.

Jaguar who had been running laps everyday, seemingly not doing anything special, ended their test day as well.

1. Michael Schumacher, Ferrari, 1:21.291
2. Juan Pablo Montoya, Williams, 1:21.361
3. Kimi Raikkonen, McLaren, 1:21.710
4. Fernando Alonso, Renault, 1:21.737
5. Luca Badoer, Ferrari, 1:21.810
6. Jarno Trulli, Renault, 1:21.952
7. David Coulthard, McLaren, 1:21.956
8. Marc Gene, Williams, 1:22.001
9. Rubens Barrichello, Ferrari, 1:22.043
10. Jacques Villeneuve, BAR, 1:22.092
11. Mark Webber , Jaguar, 1:22.114
12. Alexander Wurz, McLaren, 1:22.250
13. Cristiano da Matta, Toyota, 1:22.281
14. Olivier Panis, Toyota, 1:22.293
15. Ricardo Zonta, Toyota, 1:22.465
16. Takuma Sato , BAR, 1:22.473
17. Anthony Davidson, BAR, 1:22.891
18. Giancarlo Fisichella, Jordan, 1:23.045
19. Nick Heidfeld, Sauber, 1:23.443
20. Bjorn Wirdheim, Jordan, 1:23.633
21. Gianmaria Bruni, Minardi, 1:24.743
22. Nicolas Kiesa, Minardi, 1:25.033

And Firday sees only Ferrari and Williams hit the track as everyone else leaves.

Times are as follows:
1. Michael Schumacher, Ferrari, 1:20.823
2. Rubens Barrichello, Ferrari, 1:20.854
3. Juan Pablo Montoya, Williams, 1:21.052
4. Marc Gene, Williams, 1:21.487
5. Luca Badoer, Ferrari, 1:21.868

Thats amazing that they come in and shave 2 sec off an already blistering pace. The 3 driver testing plan is pretty neat. It would be interesting to see them race with 3 cars for sure.

Ah but that wasnt all the testing finished. :p

Veteran Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer was back at Fiorano today [Saturday] at the wheel of an F2003-GA to continue with a Bridgestone tyre development programme.

The Italian then turned to shaking down two of the four cars which will be used in the forthcoming Italian Grand Prix, due to take place at Monza next weekend.

Badoer completed a total of 110 laps - 16 on the short version of the track, the quickest in a time of 57.820 seconds.

Leading times (6 September) - Fiorano:

Luca Badoer Ferrari F2003-GA 57.820secs 110 laps B

Man, talk about not getting any free time. Although, honestly I think I would sacrifice my free time to drive that car all day. Hell I would do it for a seat at Minardi.
