The Turtles and 38 Hares…….Well really, a few of those hares could easily be called turtles but somehow they’ve managed to stay in the top 25 and haven’t run out of provisionals.

Jack on back is in go fast or go home mode before they get off the trailer but with only five extra spots really up for grabs, up for grabs is the best way to put it cause I sure as heck ain’t gonna try to handicap this many drivers and teams.

The 27/72 thing is a bit confusing also

Lot of teams to go home. It is almost every team's home track, so they all figure it is worth the shot. Quals tonight will be very interesting.

My best guess is that Stacy will be only turtle to get a prov. Kerry, Scott, Mike, and Brett might as well pack up now. Bottom five right now are...

Wimmer, Wallace, Bodine, Green, Kerry, Compton

and with qualifying starting up again at 8am with cooler temps, even Carl Long might have a shot.

Field down to 49.....no Tony Raines on qualifying order list.

:D I was really hopping that Kerry would make it I wanted to see how he ran. But don't look good.

Maybe Carl Long will make the race this time...

Maybe. And maybe Shawna will come back to the #49 team for a race.

And maybe Pigs can fly. Just strap 'em to a rocket.

Kerry's best shots are going to come at the cookie-cutters. In equal cars I'ld put my money on Back Row Joe even on one of nascar's parade tracks.

If he sticks with Busch, he might win a number of races. In Cup it's going to take a lot of luck for him to just get one.

Well, i think trying to get him in a race will give him and that team a little bit more experience with what they will need if they ever go full-time. He might make a race by year's end.

But I agree. He's been getting better in Busch, and since this team has stuck behind him, i think he should focus on Busch and try to consistently run well. Then let's think about Cup.

I was referring to Kerry Earnhardt, not Carl Long. Although Carl Long has done some busch races before.

Kerry is in 7 races next year, and another full cup schedule, and then 2004 full cup. It might be moving a little fast, but that team has definitely made improvements since the beginning of the year. They can prove me wrong and move him up and have him do well, but I think another year or two would definitely help him out.

It's the money RP......last place cup is better than 3rd Busch most days. Can't blame the guy (or the team) for wanting to make the big show instead of the little.

Personally, I can't wait for for Joey Clanton to make the jump. My gosh if some of the folks don't like rough drivers, they're gonna hate him. The guy even makes Jimmy look like Mr. Clean.

I have no problem with rough drivers, NASCAR does tho. If your not willing to bump to get the lead or move up a position then you aren't going to move up.

Bumping is a part of racing no matter how much NASCAR tries to take it out and fine drivers like they did to Harvick last year at Martinsville.

I haven't heard of the guy, but I'd like to see him race. A little bumping adds excitement in my opinion.

Oh no, 71fan, i don't blame them at all for trying.

Busch series is more expensive in terms of the winnings they make in the Busch series. And if you can qualify and do well in Cup, that will do a lot more for your career then doing well in one or two busch races with a no-name, sponsorless team.

That's why a driver like Carl Long has to keep trying. A driver like Kerry Earnhardt has a big team with a sponsor supporting it that will help him run well in Busch and then Cup, and he should take advantage of that. Rushing into Cup when you have a program like that behind you just doesn't seem like as great of an idea.

71fan, id appreciate it if you did this every week, i like your little commentary:D

Thanks Zoe.....Most weeks it's not that hard to handicap the turtles and their chances of getting in. This week I looked at the list and just kinda had to scratch my head.

Sad that a lot of guys didn't get their shot but that's racin'. From the looks of Kerry's speeds so far, I'ld say they got one heck of a lot of work to do. Keep an eye on the 49. Stacy might just be the one to bring that team to respectabillity.

thing about most backmarkers is that at a track like Martinsville even tho they are probably going finish 5 or 10 or 20 laps down, if enuf of the cars get in too big of a hurry they've got a chance for a nice payday.

From what I've been reading, right front tires are going to be the equalizer this weekend.
