Just sitting here wondering why most TV shows are either hosiptal dramas or crime dramas.

Not to say I don't like that, my favorite show is "The Shield" but it seems like every show is about cops trying to solve a crime or something.

Either that or the show is about a bunch of pretty people stuck somewhere forced into doing stunts for food or somesuch nonsense.

WWE isn't about cops trying to solve a crime. It's about guys who shave their arms legs and pits and go out in front of 20,000 people wearing less clothes than they wear to bed and grab each other and toss them about a 15 foot wide spring-loaded padded block of wood.

DBZ isn't about cops trying to solve a crime. It's about apes that look like humans who run around screaming psychotically until their hair turns yellow and they toss people into big huge rock mountains and make energy blasts that would evaporate the planet but don't leave a scratch on the bad guy.

Is it any surprise these are my favorite shows?:satisfied

I think its a "band-wagon" effect...Seems like when a good show becomes a hit, the other networks try to copy it. What ever happened to Buck Rodgers and Battlestar Galactica?

I think it might also have something to do with the fact that if you don't work in the medical or law enforcement professions, which the majority of americans don't, then you don't get to see what goes on behind closed doors so to speak. If you watch ER, you get to see what goes on in the trauma room whereas in real life you'd be sitting in "chairs". Law & Order I think is another example of showing the side of law enforcement that we wouldn't see otherwise.

Thats why i like some of the WB drama's they are not law or doctors, well one is. I like Smallville, Bird of Prey and Everwood. But i also like The Practice , Crossing Jordan and ER and those are those type of shows.

TV today is like a giant roller coaster. I remember waay back when one could only get 2 or 3 channels, and test patterns when they were off air.
These days, the sit coms seem to be on a lot and most (to me) are just plain stupid.

Cable, dishes, waaaaaaaaaay to many choices! BUT I still love CSI and the Practice on basic cable, Animal Planet, TLC, Lifetime and Discovery.

Unfortunately, working in a real emergency room is not like ER. Most of those who come in have relatively mundane problems. And believe me, the docs don't look anything like the ones on TV.:( ;)

My wife and kids are constantly reminding me of this big "hole" in my kiddie pail of knowledge. Because I haven't the faintest idea what is on mainstream TV.

I know what "ER" is about, kinda. I think I saw part of a couple of episodes once. I've heard of "The Shield" because of the all the ads run for it during races. Same with "WitchBlade".

All the other shows mentioned such as those in PB4510's post and most others, I haven't got a clue.

Dem I miss "Uncle MIltie"!:D

And Red Skelton.

I watch crime shows because they let the bad guy that's in everyone come out for a while. :)

I dont watch TV that much anymore what with this internet thing and all.

The Shield is very good HS.  Very poetic, IMO.

The bits I saw as promos did look good. And I would have never recognized that guy who played "The Commish".

I'm sure there are some good shows on. I just kinda go out of the habit of watching quite some years back and haven't gone back.

I used to watch network TV, but ever since seinfeld signed off, I haven't really watched it, I've seen an episode of third watch that looked good. Used to watch NYPD Blue when it had Caruso on it. Can't stand the Saved By the Bell guy in the new one.
Now it seems I only watch Football, Nascar, and Foxnews.

...and Jackie Gleason and Syd Caeser.

Your dating yourself HS. :)

The only things I watch are racing-related, the simpsons, Smallville, and you got to see this. Everything else just seems real boring especially relality shows.

I come home and watch the news.......then while I read my emails and unwind on the internet I listen to the news. Mostly local news from about 3 to 5, then I usually switch to FOX News. Sort of an exception this week since this sniper crap.....I put it on FOX News (if Cutie hasn't already done so) when I come home. Then around 8 we watch some fun shows. "My Wife and Kids", "Fear Factor", that new show with John Ritter, etc. If a good movie is on, we will watch it.......or, if all else fails, "Cops":D Actually, I don't watch much TV. Just listen to it. So I'm kind of like HS......clueless!:D

LOL, too true. I used to work at a hospital. I was a nurses gopher. But most people assume that ER is like the real thing. It's more realistic in their terminology and procedures due to Michael Crichton(sp).

I know it's not very realistic, but I like the show sometimes.

Ever watch that real operation show on the Learning Channel? :bleh:

I've never watched that Paul, it must come on during the week at night. I do watch discovery health quite a bit and when they're in the operating room I usually have to turn my head. I can only take so much!

"hospital dramas or crime dramas."

that's all they were in the 60s too.....:satisfied

:D Don't much other news and weather. That survivor thing is stupid. Think they should give them a Rambo survival knife and drop them in the jungle. Only way to get voted off is brought out in body bag. LOL And the one that lives for two mo. wins.

I like that idea Gollum, maybe put an incentive in it. Your 10 contestants are death row inmates and the one who survives gets his charges dropped to life imprisonement or something.
