Twin 125s Questions

Okay. I know that starting in 1972 the Twin 125 qualifying races at Daytona were indeed that, qualifying races and didn't count in the points.

But, my Stock Car Racing Encyclopedia list those races as being points races up through 1971.

They were actual 100 milers from 1959 through 1967.
In 1969 they switched to 125 milers. I don't show that they did those races in 1968.

Okay so they basic question is, is the above information correct?

Anyone with any insight, it would be appreciated.

Thanks

1959 through 1967--qualifying races were 100 miles long and were point paying races.
1968--No qualifying races were ran.Don't know why?
1969 through 1971--qualifying races were 125 miles long, points still awarded.

1959-There was only 1 qualifying race (100 miles) held,38 cars in field, won by Bob Welbourn.
1961-Race 1 qualifier ran just 98 miles,even though 2nd qualifier ran the full 100 miles.Don't know why?

I hope this helped, might have brought up more questions than what was answered,a start anyway perhaps ;)

Questions are good. They help me to nail down the info.

The 1968 races were rained out.

Not sure on the 1959 and 1961 questions, but if anyone knows the reasons, I'm sure they'll post an answer.

The race was shortened due to a crash. Apparently shorten races due to late accidents was a fairly common pratice in the earlier days of NASCAR.

Still don't know why there was only one qualifying race in 1959. That was the first year at the 2.5 speedway, so it may have simply worked differently than it did starting in 1960.
