"Uncle Jack"

Those are awesome planes! I remember building models of them back when I was Kid, I couldn't get enough of them. I wonder how many are still in existence?

I heard there are not many left capable of flight but some are being restored.
Here is a link http://www.libertyfoundation.org/index.html to an already restored one that flies around the country to different cities and offers tours of the aircraft as well as 30 minute flight rides. This one was here near me last year, I did not see it up close but I watched it with binoculars throughout the day one weekend as it was flying people around.

This is pretty sad. The WWII B17 "Liberty Belle" crashed and burned in Chicago. I contacted them by email to find out when the were going to be back on the west coast. I made plans with my son to take a 30 min. flight on the Liberty Belle later this year when it returned to California. Now there are only thirteen B17 that are capable of flight.
