Bullchit! He isn't going to win it this year.

Well, After NH, Jimmy was 92 behind Hamlin, and 47 behind Harvick.
A couple races later, they're all chasing him. And his best tracks are yet to come...... Say goodnight Irene......

The only comfort I find in the whole deal, is that, on queue, Kyle appears to be self destructing.....again....

I dunno, he was able to get 1st in points in only three races, and his best tracks are coming up.

Considering that he was only 10 points behind when the Chase started, I wouldn't think that is a huge accomplishment. He's basically only gained 18 points since the beginning of the Chase as he's only 8 points ahead of Hamlin.

Lets look at it this way, Hamlin finished, 2nd, 9th, and 12th, and he still lost the points lead to Johnson.
If Johnson had not hiccupped at NH with that 25th place finsh, he'd probably be 70-90 points ahead of the field by now.
I hate him, but Jimmy ain't gonna hiccup anymore......it's over.

The pattern is becoming clear and the result is inevitable. A different winner every week. Jimmy gets his car best near the end and challanges for the lead. Finishes top five. The inconsistancy of the rest of the chasers causes the gap to widen.

how did Derrick Cope move up a spot in points?

How is that? Explain how running strong all night last night is self destructing?

I know pretty funny!! Kyle finishing 2nd, moved up 4 positions in the points = self destruction:rolleyes:

Brad who?????

I hate to say it, but I think the Chase is as good as over. In my opinion the only drivers within striking distance of JJ is the 11 and the 29. I truly don't think either of them have what it takes to unseat Jimmie. The 29 is consistent enough, but is not putting the wins together. I think the 11 will do well at Martinsville, then he will head south.

P.S. I will be at Martinsville and I REALLY hope the 11 doesn't win!

Yep I'd take a bet that it'll be 5 in a row.
I just don't understand why no one else can step up and do what he does every year in the chase.

They can't be consistent. I mean look at Harvick, he was consistent in the regular season, but so far in the Chase he just hasn't been able to pull it together.

Two words, Chad Knaus. I think Chad pretty much looks at everyone else and says, "anything you can do, I can do better." Thing is, I think he is right.

It's the chemistry that Chad and Johnson have, I think that's what doing it and as long as Johnson keeps winning Championship, I don't see Knaus leaving him, unless another team offer him a bigger paycheck than what's Hendrick is paying him. Then again, can any other team afford to outpay Hendrick?

Only way Chad and Jimmy ever break up is if Hendrick decides to send him to JR.

Which will only happen if they stop performing the way that they are right now. Hendrick isn't giving up Earnhardt Jr. because he brings in merchandising money, and Johnson is staying because he's the top dog in Hedrick's garage.

Johnson may very well win his 5th and the next 5 after that if someone doesn`t step up and do something about it.

It`s not like they`re hiding some secret formula or have some higher power on their side...how they do it is on display every week for anyone to see.

I also think that while Johnson may not be the most talented driver on the track, he certainly has become the smartest.

Well he puts his nose to the grindstone. While all the other drivers are carrying on with feuds and drama queen crap, Johnson and Knaus rise above it and keep out of it. They don't ***** over the radio every time something goes wrong and while other drivers may carry out the drama show in the garage, Johnson and Knaus just stay out of it and keep working on the car for the next race.

Maybe once the other drivers stop and realize that this isn't the WWF, they'll start doing the same.

i'd agree except for one word, talladega. nobody knows how or if the points will change that much after that crapshoot.

I have a feeling there is going to be a huge wreck that changes the entire chase scenario this year.

I agree, talladega is the big unknown, however, the 48 team seems to always find a way to survive it.

The reality of it all is that Johnson is the one team that could probably wreck out of Talledega, win the following 3 of 4 races and get #5 anyways.
Only because no other team can piece together 4 top 3 finishes to keep him down.
The 48 team is phenomenal.

How hard is it to figure out that if you get someone at the bottom o the chase to put him in the wall everyweek he can't win.

Last I looked there were five races left this season. Regardless of the popular opinion on this board, 41 points is not an insurmountable lead. That can be gone in a heartbeat. Don't engrave that name quite yet.

If we were talking about Johnson trailing by 41, i'd agree with you, or if it were Tony, i'd agree, but Hamlin isn't going to do it. If Denny wins martinsville, Johnson will be 2nd.
At this point in the chase, you're battling all 4 teams at HMS, working as one. It's a mega-team.

Sounds like he's got in your head too! :sarcasm:

Nobody is immune to issues, not even Jimmie Johnson. It's not like he's a robot or something. I think that was Kenseth.

Year after year he just outperforms the rest. You can't rely on people having bad days to win a chase. If you race around looking for top 10's and bad luck for others, you're not going to win.
Right now, bad luck is the only thing thats going to stop him. Whens the last time Jimmy had bad luck, 2 races in a row? I say 2 because 1 more bad race isn't going to eliminate him.
MoMike

How about seven in a row? Again, Jimmie is not indestructible.

7/3/2010 - Daytona - Started 2nd - Finished 31st
7/10/2010 - Chicago - Started 2nd - Finished 25th
7/25/2010 - Indy - Started 2nd - Finished 22nd
8/1/2010 - Pocono - Started 6th - Finished 10th
8/8/2010 - Watkins Glen - Started 9th - Finished 28th
8/15/2010 - Michigan - Stated 2nd - Finished 12th
8/21/2010 - Bristol - Started 1st - Finished 35th

OK, OK..... So your saying that 10th and 12th place finish wasn't so bad. No, not to bad but those are the type of finishes that could lose the Chase. Of course the easy bet is to say Jimmie will win the Chase. That's were I'd place my bet to. But..... it isn't over until it's over.

1st and 8th. You ask..... What the heck does that mean. That's the difference between Jimmie Johnson maintaining or losing his lead. A Denny win and a Jimmie 8th is enough to have a new leader. That's not a lot of positions.

1st and 8th? Thats enough for Denny to take over for 1 race. Not near enough to seal the deal for the next 5 races. What i'm saying is that no one in the 12 car field has the position in the points, with the consistency, to topple him.

I gotta stop this. I'm starting to sound like a Johnson fan......
