I hadn't seen that either. Sponsor's some and go in this sport and as long as they keep coming I guess there's not need to worry. UPS ranks 53rd on the Fortune 500 while Dow Chemicals set to enter the sport in 2014 ranks 52nd. I'll call that one a wash. That being said, it sucks to see them go.

By league I'm guessing that they mean NASCAR as a whole.

Yep , there is never a good time to lose a sponsor from the sport . Come back soon UPS.

I think having been dealing with football she just had a brain fart, not that I have any personal experience with those.

I hate to see any major sponsor leave any racing series. First NAPA, and now UPS.:(

They were said to be leaving years ago. Or at least that's the main reason Roush used for getting rid of David Ragan.

Yeah, they dropped to sponsoring Edwards once a year at their home race at Kentucky. I'll have good memories from the Jarrett era - those commercials were the best.

It seems like half our economy arrives in a truck these days, so I doubt they don't have the money.

UPS informed Roush that they no longer were going to sponsor the #6 so Ragan requested a release from his contract in hopes that Penske would put him in the #22. He got half of what he asked for.

One of our racers is a UPS driver. He said that you would be surprised what they are paid, and they are allowed up to 60 hours per week and most drivers kill that in 4 days, some in 5. Times like right now when they are flooded, they lose money.

I watched a tv show this morning about UPS, and it showed the whole internal operation from pick up to delivery. What a sophisticated operaton it is. It was pretty amazing to see a package go from a to b overnight. Now, i see why it costs us around $400.00 to red label an engine block from a race track on the east coast to BAE on the west coast. I have a whole new respect for these shipping companys that i take for granted everyday.

This is why they are leaving.Seems I can't drive the truck....

Ragan was release because he isn't that great. he has won on plate tracks but never even ran up front at other tracks. as to UPS leaving, honestly I thought they already left the sport. according to the paint schemes page on jayski, UPS was only on the 99 during the kentucky race, big freaking whoop, they left years ago.

UPS was only a primary sponsor on the #99 one time last year. They were an associate sponsor for every race last season riding on the door post. All sponsor's are an important part of the team. It sucks to loose any of them.

I didn't see this posted anywhere else.

UPS PR Dir Susan Rosenberg added in a statement, "UPS has enjoyed tremendous success through its partnership with NASCAR, including sponsorships at the league, team and track level.

I am aware that I'm getting older and forgetful but I wasn't aware that Nascar added other sport type "Leagues" to "our" sport.

League is the correct word.

I wonder how the execs see it in the boardroom when their brand is being beaten on track by their main competitor . Lowes over Home Depot , Fed Ex over UPS , Burger King over MacDonalds , Miller over Bud , etc. or do they just look at the advertising minutes cost over other forms of marketing?

That had happened once that I remember but my memory is vague. It might have been Sterling Marlin in the Coors car winning a Miller or Budweiser sponsored race but I'm not sure, I just remember the sponsor's competitor won the race (and I thought it was pretty funny at the time).

The fall Richmond race was sponsored for several years by Chevy and was won at times by Fords, Dodges, & Toyota(I believe) during that time. I'm sure there have been similar outcomes with other sponsors many times at other races, I just happen to remember this because I was at a couple of them.

That reminds me of when Larry Dixon drove the Miller Light top fuel dragster and won the Budweiser Classic, and then had to ride on the Budweiser wagon pulled by the Budweiser clydesdales in front of the grandstands while holding the big Budweiser trophy and check.:D

oop's... i meant Miller Lite.:dunce:

UPS has been scanning back for a long time. They sort of lost the plot when they went to partial schedule.

You see down in Jersey some UPS drivers were throwing packages off the truck in and around large puddles. I could not find any video for that but I got this one....

You'd think that with all of their focus now being on delivering packages, they'd get them there on time. Guess not. I'm still waiting on a couple 'in time by Christmas' packages to arrive. Oh well.

I guess to be fair they really didn't say Christmas 2013 though. :(

What are you doing dp ? Trying to bum everybody out with a sad Christmas story ? :)

Ok ginridge , I gotta ask a dumb question . You make four posts between Christmas and New Years 2011 , and four posts between Christmas and New Years 2013 . What gives ? You involved in deep space exploration or something ? Affiliated with dp's missing Christmas presents ? Just nosy :)

No, I thought it was only a matter of seconds before a comment was made on the 'happy ending' remark. Maybe that just shows my age or my maturity level, I'm not sure?

I don't think many here understand the immature jokes, just you and I apparently lol. I made several to kyle18fan about his "waxing kyle's helmet" reference and nobody caught on

I hope your not that naive that you would really believe that.:D

Like Diogenes, I took a trip traveling the world with my lamp, looking for an honest man. When I got to Washington DC they stole my lamp and it took me a while to get back home. Actually, it just seems I've been too busy. I used to regularly frequent some other NASCAR boards, but they all seemed to die out. I found this board back then when I was home for a period and just never got back. Now I've reached a point in my life where my work doesn't keep me away as much (presently home for 2 weeks) and I re-discovered this one. I never did post a lot on any boards, but now that I'm back, I'll probably be around every week or 2 for a little while. I was in another board last week I'd been gone from for over 3 years.

It's pure advertising to those companies. They couldn't care less about who wins as long as the marketing works. UPS is pulling out for the same reason so many other sponsors are leaving: NASCAR get more and more expensive to sponsor and it's not worth it when NASCAR's aging demographics come into play.
