UPS Plans To Drop Primary Sponsorship Of David Ragan's No. 6 Cup Car

Yeah, Matt gave up a win at Daytona to help Dave, only to watch him spin and wreck his way out of the top 20.

Maybe he and Joey will start a team a couple of years down the road. RWR....rain and wreck racing.

Should have seen this coming. UPS does some nice commercials through the season and have done no new ones this year.

Does this open the door for Bowyer to go to the #6?

IDK, because everything has become murky. The article seems to imply that UPS is no longer interested in sponsoring a car for the full year. Edwards has Fastenal for 17 races, he still has AFLAC (or does he) and UPS want's to be on his car too. Then there is Scott's.

It looks like fulltime sponsorship has become too expensive for most companies. Penske is the only organization that hasn't gone to partial sponsorship, and that's unlikely to change for years. That could give them an advantage. They also had a 3rd fulltime sponsor, Verizon, booted out of the sport by NASCAR's greed.

I think you're going to see a lot more major sponsors scale back or drop out of Nascar all together. Maybe it's time to consider starting just 30-36 cars, IMO I don't think there will be enough sponsorship to go around.

I like the idea of Fastenal stepping up. I want to support my drivers but just couldn't see myself wearing anything with a duck on it. Fastenal is a sponsor more suited to my gearhead/grease monkey lifestyle :beerbang:

How about the good ole days when hardly needed a sponsor..and the OWNERS paid for the teams....

Thats where I see it heading the cost versus return for sponsorship in NASCAR just isnt what it was 10-15 years ago and with our current economy companys have to cut back to survive.

i do believe this is the death knell for david ragan at rfr. whoever rfr can get to sponsor the #6 will determine who drives the car.

He seems like a nice kid. I don't like him, and I don't think much of his driving 'talent' either, but this is a rough way to lose your ride.

I wonder how many sponsors of young drivers are looking at Kez in his second year and deciding they want a lot more for their money.

I'm looking at Denny's car, and he has Charter as his sponsor. I thought Fedex was fulltime?

Yup. Roush is the man that started the smaller multi sponsorship deal.

First it was Biffle has nowhere to go then Edwards is heading to JGR and now doomsday for Ragan.

Roush will get him sponsorship - he always does - and you can bet that if Nascar still allowed it, he'd have a 5th team.

Ragan's s decent driver, he'll land a ride somewhere heck maybe Hornaday will retire & he'll get the 33 Harvick truck who knows...

If Harvick continues to race in the CWTS, that is...

Trevor or Ricky are probably the next Roush CUP Driver so David could take over either the 6 or the 16 in NNS...

Seems like Hamlin has 2 or 3 races every year where FedEx either isnt the primary or on the car at all. Still they are on the car the vast majority of the time.

FedEx is still on the car, though. Just not the primary sponsor for selected events, I guess...

Yep... I just don't see how you will see 43 cars on a regular basis next season. Every one is cutting back right now, plus the popularity of Nascar is not what it used to be that is for sure.

depending on the tv contract you may see 43 cars, 10-15 of which would be s&p.

Even the start and park guys are having a hard time, who knows time will tell. The amount of cars that will actually have full sponsorship and a chance to win will be dwindling I'm afraid. I'd rather see 30 cars that are competitive then watch 8-12 cars out of 43 park it after 5 laps... just saying.

i agree. what can i say? nascar has priced itself beyond what the little guys can afford. happens everywhere. it's a *supposedly* blue collar sport with a f1 appetite. <g>

There is still money to be made in the lower categories of racing - but getting to "The Show" is getting harder and harder in all forms of motorsports.

It's not anybody's fault, really. The Media, the Promoters, NASCAR, the Owners, the Drivers, the Merchandisers (Get your Digger Gear at dwstore.com), the Fans. All share equal responsibility for what the sport has become, in my opinion.

I hope this is a sign that we will see some top notch talent back in the 6 soon. Davids got talent but not cup level talent, put him back in nationwide where he belongs.
