Drugs may have been a factor in an apparent rear-end collision on East Stone Drive near Packing House Road that left a FedEx delivery vehicle upturned and sent both drivers to nearby hospitals, according to Kingsport police.
The UPS delivery vehicle reportedly rear-ended the FedEx delivery vehicle, which came to rest on its side.
Charges are still pending against the UPS driver, Howard W. Felty, Jr., 38, of 476 Riverview Road, Bristol, Tenn., who faces a "possible DUI," according to the crash report.
The possibility of a DUI charge stems from an investigation into assorted pills and drug paraphernalia found after officers obtained consent to search Felty's personal travel bag.
The items have been sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and charges are pending lab results.
The FedEx driver, identified as Christa M. Lewis, 35, 120 Ina Lane, of Jonesborough, was taken to Indian Path Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Her condition is not yet known.
Felty was also transported to Holston Valley Hospital for treatment, but has since been released.
