There is a worm running rampant. You will need to download the patch. Go here for more information. This just started yesterday. FYI - I am a victim! All you need to catch this thing is to be connected to the internet. I believe High Speed/DSL is the only problem, though.

Hope noone else has this nightmare!

I think we got hit with it the other day when I was online. Our virus detector caught something and we had to quatertine it and kill it.

Thanks for the tip, Maj.

I just put the fix on this XP laptop.

Fortunately, I did not pick up the worm.

Thanks for the update Maj. I just finished installing the update, but fortunately I didnt get the worm.

Well, I did get the worm. Patch has been installed and followed the other instructions regarding removal of the worm. So far, so good. Have been online for a while now! WOOHOO!!!!! Success! :D

I'm too lazy to read it, does it say anything about Windows ME?

No, it doesn't bow. But don't be too complacent. It could happen to you, too! Right now it just effects Windows NT, 2000, XP and Server 2003. ;)

It only affects versions of Windows with a service called Remote Procedure Call (RPC) - which is found only on versions of Windows based on NT (NT 4, 2000, XP, Server 2k3)

Versions of Windows based on 95 (e.g. 98 and Me) are not affected and will not ever be affected, by this particular worm. You should still run periodic Windows Updates as there are still other things that can affect you.
