Using a shotgun shell to start motor

Came across this on another website. Anyone hear of this system before reading and seeing it here?
I learned something new today as I had never heard of this system.

Mythbusters tried to make an engine that ran on gunpowder. Didn't work well, but they did get a couple of revolutions out of it.

Way cool, the only time I have seen this type engine start was in the original Flight of The Phoenix movie staring Jimmy Stewart.

Yup, F-105 used a system utilizing what looked like a gallon paint can. Big smoke!

Yes . many old engines were started this way, including aircraft
